Republican at the bus stop

If this doesn't illustrate what Republicans are, I don't know what does.

Four parents at the bus stop. The bus driver lets us know that she's having surgery on her leg and will be gone for several weeks and there will be a sub. Three of us wish her well.

She leaves and we discuss bus substitutes. We've had bad luck in the past - subs have messed up and forgotten the route and then not picked up our kids. "We hope the sub has GPS or a map or something." And "Hopefully they've learned from last time."

Then the last parent speaks. "Why is she getting knee surgery? She's a bus driver! She just has to sit! She shouldn't be allowed to get it now. She should have to wait until summer vacation."

Seven months of pain for our convenience. Yeah.

Workers aren't real people to them.

I read that as a group, people on the right are the least empathetic, libertarians scoring the lowest of all.

My large family has tried to do a charity donation instead of Christmas gifts for the last five years. Out of the twenty four adults in our family, she is the only one that will never go along.

Every charity suggestion is met with her extreme right wing rhetoric about the supposed questionable activities of that particular organization. It upsets my mother in law, a very charitable individual, terribly. Last year, we finally gave up, and organized a canned food drive, and handed my mother in law an envelope of cash, which she passed along to the local food bank. She was very happy to donate twenty bags of food, and almost $700 in cash. The food bank, low on supplies after the holiday season, was very happy to accept our donation.

Looking forward to doing the same this year.

We always give my mother-in-law a donation to a charity -- it's what she asks for.

This year she gets nothing. We're making a big donation to Planned Parenthood in the name of a right-wing senator. I hope she'll understand.

To them the bus driver deserves to suffer because because they aren't successful in the eyes of Republicans.

Now this bus driver could be an extremely successful person at life, they could have a great family, raise their own great children, and generally be happy, but to Republicans it's all about being wealthy.

Oddly enough, Jesus was poor and instructed people to help the poor.

There are distortions everywhere I look.

I live in Grand Rapids Michigan, and this is exactly what is preached here. The Republicans have made the central tenet of Calvinism "Rich people are rich because they are virtuous, and poor people are poor because they are sinners." It infects every policy and decision they make.

It's a sickness.

I notice that very same dynamic as well. It's always conservative, or conservative christian fundamentalist types who are constantly spouting the same doctrine you mention. They identify more with "the man" than their own working class peers, even as they are often the recipient of arbitrary high-handedness from authority that is adverse to them.

"It infects every policy and decision they make"

Bingo. So true.

they were putting their kid(s) on that socialist bus to school in the first place?

And then proceed to drag out a laundry list of complaints that they actually expect I can address in a 15-minute appointment.

I usually tell them that the reason it took me so long to get to them is because every single patient ahead of them had their stated complaint plus "one more thing..."

They get pissed because everyone else ahead of them was doing the exact same thing they are.

Cluelessness...

A REAL Republican would never ever under penalty of death send a kid to a public school system. Plus they would be outraged that a lowly bus driver can obtain surgery. Clearly the school taxes are way too high if they can afford to give workers medical care benefits and enough income to cover the out of pocket costs.

This person is a RINO.

It's always done without so much as a hint of irony. I say this because they're always just one paycheck away, or one piece of bad luck from being in the same situation.

The same people that rant and rail against anybody they feel isn't obsequious enough for them, can turn on a dime and meekly ask for your forgiveness, or forbearance when the situation is reversed...and yet: Not blanch even one tiny bit at the irony of it all.

Buncha' shitheels.
