Institute agrees to take Bexar’s Confederate markers (TX)

The Commissioners Court is expected to accept an offer from the Institute of Texan Cultures to take custody of plaques with Confederate symbols that were removed from Bexar County property this year during the national uproar after the South Carolina church massacre.
The items marking the Vance House and the Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway were erected near the Bexar County Courthouse by descendants of the Confederacy and have been in storage since July 21, when County Judge Nelson Wolff led the court in ordering their removal ...
Removed from the north end of the courthouse grounds were outdoor plaques installed in 1936 to denote the Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway, dedicated to the Soldiers of the Confederacy and United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Removed from outside the former Federal Reserve Building on West Nueva Street was a 1956 marker denoting the site of the former Vance House, where Robert E. Lee was a guest. It featured the Confederate national flag as part of the United Daughters of the Confederacy emblem ...
