Iowa Daily Democrat: A fundamental right for some, not for all

Am I the only person who finds lots of irony in two thorny issues in politics these days? I’m referring to climate change and voter ID laws.

The irony is this:

Many people pushing for voter ID laws want to guard against what they believe is widespread voter fraud. But studies show it is virtually nonexistent in our nation. These are the same people, however, who oppose action to minimize the effects of climate change — although numerous studies have shown climate change is a serious problem.

These climate-change opponents dismiss scientists’ evidence, calling it inconclusive. Yet, proponents of voter ID laws dismiss the lack of evidence of voter fraud with a shrug and say the potential problem is too serious to ignore.
