please, no speculation about what you imagine them to be like, or snark, or "I saw a bumper sticker" with a physical description, or even an article quoting someone.
Does anyone actually know someone?
What are they like?

(2,101 posts)On his desk in early September he had a letter from the Carson campaign. After lunch I'll look to see if it's still around; it had ten or twelve of Carson's positions on it, each of only a single sentence.
On second thought, I'll bring up Carson this afternoon and come back here tonight. You could not possibly understand how futile it is to discuss anything with him. Sometimes I think I should write things down for the comedic value, but then again choosing to watch Faux would do the same.

(2,101 posts)I stated I don't understand how Carson could be beating Trump in the polls. Nothing else was said. The reply boiled down to this:
Carson is super smart, you can tell because he takes the time to really think about what he wants to say. As a matter of fact he had the highest SAT score ever recorded.
The media is making him look very good by bringing up how he can be aggressive; it wasn't that he was threatening someone he didn't know - it was family.
Being offered a free scholarship by a General proves him qualified for CinC.
**** Like I stated above, it is pointless to engage in ANY discussion. (btw - couldn't find the letter from Carson campaign)

(2,101 posts)Asking why he supported Carson would be asking for talking points or made him defensive. Instead the (un)truth just gushed out!

(2,101 posts)That explains why I couldn't find the letter - he must have filled in the blanks, the amount, and remitted it. Today he commented that he feels like putting it over top of the next Bernie sticker he sees. Brain surgeons, they're all alike.

(14,733 posts)Only spoken to him maybe 3 times so far - I did sound him out on politics when I first met him, because I figured as a young white guy he might be open to Bernie, but no, he turned out to be at the other end of the political spectrum, the libertarian 'I got mine, tough nuts for the rest of you' as opposed to the socialist 'we all need to help each other'.

She thinks Carson is intelligent, calm and sensible.
She's not rabid about him. Posts the occasional quote from Carson with a brief comment - "he's the most sensible of them all" kind of generic statement.
I'm not sure our FB "friendship" would survive a face to face encounter at the moment.

(6,409 posts)The people who live next door are supporting Carson right now. They stay glued to Fox News, so I'm guessing their support will shift when Fox News tells them to shift it, but they want Carson right now. They're nice people, but they believe the usual stuff. Obama is a secret Muslim, and he was born in Kenya. Hilary is a lesbian who had Vince Foster killed to silence him. She tells me she's reading a wonderful book called "Killing Reagan" and it tells the heroic tale of how he expelled commies from Hollywood when he was SAG president. They're nice, friendly people, but they believe crazy stuff.

(21,573 posts)I'm a Red sox fan.... and I post on their message board. There is a Carson supporter there that is a kook named elysse2 that started a thread about Carson and almost 900 posts later it is a cluster ****. Basically this guy just goes on and on about god and Carson's moral character blah blah blah. I don't even bother arguing with him but my fellow liberals over there do a great job. More people jumped in and the argument spread in typical internet to fashion to Benghazi, Hillary, Obama, etc etc.
This same poster said in 2013 that he wouldn't trade shane victorino for Mike Trout, so that's how much his opinion was worth to me to begin with.

(16,399 posts)But I do not discuss politics with him. He showed up at my parents house about a year ago and said Obama was a communist and not born in this country, so I have zero interest in engaging him. My parents are unabashed Democrats so either he is fucking clueless enough about politics that he thought this would have traction with them, or he was trolling them. He also went to DC to participate in one of Larry Klaymen's rallies.
He had a Carson sticker on his car, though my brother noticed it was missing this weekend and wondered if he caved.

I would think her stance on Carson has changed since the latest revelations that he lied came out. I wouldn't even guess who she supports now.
She did say at the time she wants all big money out of politics and I told her to vote for Bernie then. She didn't agree. LOL.

They would vote however the rest of the folks in their church vote for sure, which would be whoever ever seemed to be the most Christian among the Republicans. (543 posts)I've seen her once since we graduated in 1953, at our 50th class reunion. She was big on Bush then, is now big on Carson, lots of Carson posts on Facebook. Her father owned a Conoco station, she married a geologist for Texaco, her sons are in oil, her daughter married someone in oil. She lived all of her life in a major part of the oil patch, her exposure has been 100% oil, 100% West Texas conservatism. She's creative, talented, intelligent. After reconnecting with her I asked a question about myself that I still can't answer. If I had stayed in the Texas Panhandle, if I hadn't had exposure to other parts of the country and other points of view, would I still be conservative? I was conservative when I left - so conservative I voted for Nixon in 1960. If I had stayed, like my friend stayed, if my only exposure was to Texas oil, would I now be posting Facebook about Carson instead of Sanders ? I wish I knew.

(6,907 posts)She is SDA also. She is kind of a mind blower in cognitive dissonance. She is white and her husband is an African American and a police officer. She is very anti black lives matter and believes we are in a post racial society, that it is personal responsibility and the fault of victim s who do not respect police. She can't understand that white privilege around her will impact her own children. She posted the rant that carson went on about the media and Obama with the title "Bam!" In her mind he set the media straight.

All are naive and religious to a fault. On FB, they post religious sayings/thoughts ad nauseum as though they aren't too firm in their beliefs. It has caused disputes and concerns within their families and friendships. There is no arguing with them, as they only believe Carson and FOX, Beck, Hannity and their ilk. The Republican propaganda machine is alive and working. It will take years to deprogram them...if ever.

(16,327 posts)She is an old friend who I've known since grammar school. After high school she went "wild child", with lots of coke-fueled nights. She got pregnant, lost the baby, and turned to Jesus, joining a nondenominational Christian fundamentalist church. She is a regular consumer of RW "news" sites who is fearful of Sharia law, hater "takers", and believes that abstinence only education works. (Which is especially funny considering how many of our fellow Catholic classmates got knock-up in HS.) She thinks Carson is a godly man who is being persecuted by the media.
I suspect that is where most of Carson's support comes from.

(9,116 posts)She's sweet... but uneducated. She is easily swayed by appeals to base sentimentality and doesn't know enough about any major issue to know when she's being played. Plus, Carson is a gifted surgeon; and she tends to think specialized knowledge necessarily entails general knowledge.
She also hides a mean judgmental streak behind the saccharine veneer of a fifty-something housewife. She has great difficulty understanding why anyone would do, think, or say things differently than her.
