that economics is an issue of commonality on which a large progressive coalition can be built. And when you get people working together on common interests they learn about each other, build empathy and support for the broader (and in some cases more important) issues put forth by the various groups that make up the coalition.

This is why you don't exclude groups from your coalition even when they don't agree or understand every aspect the movement. You make it clear to them where you will not agree and work on changing peoples' hearts.
