(26,622 posts)and is only getting worse. There's no reason for this. Corporations have the resources to lift and advance civilization, and, sometimes they do. But greed has taken control of most world rulers, resulting in massive suffering of human beings. This is unsustainable.

The LAST thing we need in DC is some sheep's clothing sleight-of-hand artist who'll have learned well what the meaning of is is, and will use that talent to hand corporations their gifts while duping the masses into thinking they're really gifts for everybody. Personally, my own "gift receptacle" is sore from the generosity of prior administrations

(24,703 posts)I feel like, I only ask for only a pittance to make my family and my friends healthy, to have my collective voice heard at the table and it's not to much to ask, because I am making them wealthy, on my toil, my sacrifice, and the promise that I made to them to make them a profit, just so long as they gave me dignity for my society, my family.
But when you run on a platform to ask for that change, and make a promise to change the insane trade policies and then take seven years to slap me in my face and tell me its TPP is a gold standard of trade policies, that is better than the NAFTA, CAFTA, and it's not, then your either a trickster or something else.
It was a promise that was made, and they asked for my vote to upheld that promise and then we were denied all they had to do was go a proposed a change, and it wasn't done.
That says everything about principles and character
I then say, go into a "small" town in northern Minnesota, USA, producing the iron ore, the very backbone of national security being sold off to outside countries and then see the application of a business model of the "gift receptacle" in it's application, they are pretty sore, because they / we don't forget its application ever since it was introduced in the 1970's when Tricky Dick Nixon applied and started the generosity or anyone for that matter that has today talked out of both sides of there collective mouth.
And as a democratic -socialistic I am pretty tired that I was used, and promised.
This is why my vote will only go to the democratic -socialist who has had my back for over 50 years and this is why..........................I

He was sitting shoeless and jacketless in a wheelchair outside a market -- sign up, head down. What kind of a country can afford biillions for bombs and wall street bankers but leaves its most vulnerable with nothing? And politicians of all stripes don't even want to talk about it, much less address it or look for solutions. A national disgrace.

(8 posts)....only to read about stuff like this:
DHS reportedly botched digitization of immigration docs
A Department of Homeland Security agency spent more than $1 billion in taxpayer money to digitize immigration paperwork -- and after a decade of work, only has managed to put one document online.
The Washington Post reported Monday that officials at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services still are only able to offer a single form -- out of nearly 100 -- for online applications, and make a single fee payable electronically.
All other forms can still only be filed with paper.
The report sheds light on a struggling effort that not only has frustrated immigrant applicants but raises national security concerns and could put at risk any effort to overhaul immigration policies.
Now, according to the Post, it isn't projected to be done for another four years and could cost over $3 billion.
"It's a huge albatross around our necks," Kenneth Palinkas, former head of the USCIS union, told the Post.
The report from the Post described a startling sequence of mismanagement in the program.
According to the report, agency officials did not finish a basic plan for the new system until three years after the initial contract was given to IBM, rendering part of the plan outdated before work began.
Only three forms were ever digitized, but two needed to be taken down after problems. The only available online form is an application for renewing or replacing a lost green card.
According to the Post, even that system has had problems and delays.
While DHS officials acknowledge these setbacks, they say the department has abandoned earlier plans and is moving toward a new system based in part on cloud computing, according to the Post.
USCIS also defended its work in a statement Monday afternoon.
"USCIS is actively working to go agile and move our application processes online. The Transformation initiative is developing that capability and will allow us to eventually move away from processing 8 million paper-based benefit requests a year. But fixing a broken immigration system is not easy and this has taken longer than originally planned."
The agency said changes have allowed it to process "about 1.2 million benefit requests out of USCIS' total annual work volume," with more improvements to come.
The project was originally supposed to be done in 2013, for a half-billion-dollar price tag.

(19,564 posts)No wonder their viewers are so clueless! I did get a laugh reading the comments for their version. Silly FOX News readers, they're so misinformed they think this was implemented under the Obama administration, when in reality it was under the Bush administration.
Thanks for bringing us an example of their creative reporting of the truth, though. It's always funny to see how easily they dupe their readers.
The WP's story:
Youre going on 11 years into this project, they only have one form, and were still a paper-based agency, said Kenneth Palinkas, former president of the union that represents employees at the immigration agency. Its a huge albatross around our necks.
DHS officials acknowledge the setbacks but say the government is well on the way to automating the immigration service, which processes about 8 million applications a year. The department has scrapped the earlier technology and development method and is now adopting a new approach relying in part on cloud computing.
In 2012, we made some hard decisions to turn the Transformation Program around using the latest industry best practices and approaches, instead of simply scratching it and starting over, said Shin Inouye, a spokesman for Citizenship and Immigration Services. We took a fresh start a fix that required an overhaul of the development process from contracting to development methodology to technology.
Since making these changes, we have been able to develop and deploy a new system that is able to process about 1.2 million benefit requests out of USCISs total annual work volume, Inouye added. Our goals remain to improve operations, increase efficiency, and prepare for any changes to our immigration laws. Based on our recent progress, we are confident we are moving in the right direction.
