When I was a little girl, my mother told me about how during the Great Depression there had been an argument between trickle down and prime the pump theories and trickle down had been thoroughly discredited.

I was astonished when trickle down came back round, even being called by that name. I kept expecting somebody to jump up and say, "Hey, wait a minute. Don't you guys remember that you were already a laughing stock fifty years ago?" I still don't know why that never happened.

Basically the Reagan plan that became the guiding "philosophy" of the GOP and seduced some spineless Dems into DLC/Third Way "compromise."
