You think he wants to end up like Jimmy Carter in his post-presidential years, building houses for poor people and being a humanitarian?

The payoff waiting for him if he rams this through - with primarily Republican votes one might note - will make the largesse dumped by the oligarchs on the Clintons look like a thousand-dollar shopping spree at Sam's Club.

The altruistic TPPers simply want to make the world a better place. The rising tide of fake free trade raises all yachts.

was a fellow from Georgia. Name of Carter, IIRC. Every one since Jimmy Carter has been wholly owned by the tenth-percenters and has executed virtually all of their instructions to a tee in all major areas of policy foreign and domestic. The facts all point in one direction.

It could be that he actually believes that ceding powers traditionally reserved to governmental entities and agencies to anonymous, unaccountable corporations and their wholly-controlled instruments, or fusing corporate and governmental power is in fact a good thing in and of itself. Which would make him a follower of Giovanni Gentile. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_Gentile

Those are the only available explanations.

Look at who the strongest supporters of this abomination are - the biggest, most profitable corporations on earth and their Republican flunkies. Doesn't that make you wonder, even a little bit?

Lots of progressives in the world support multilateral institutions that develop and implement policies that affect many countries rather than relying on each country to go its own way.

The 'states rights' (national sovereignty) argument has to be balanced against the gains from dealing with issues together rather than each nation/state seeking its own maximum advantage.

Look at who the strongest supporters of this abomination are - the biggest, most profitable corporations on earth and their Republican flunkies. Doesn't that make you wonder, even a little bit?

Polls show that the strongest supporters of trade, trade agreements and the TPP are liberals and Democrats. The biggest opponents are the republican base and far-right conservatives. That does make me wonder, a lot!

So why are corporations, banks in particular, pushing this deal so hard? That makes me wonder......

Democrats and liberals favor fair trade, not corporate coup d'etats. The greatest opposition to the TPP comes from progressives. No "wonder" at all.

NAFTA-like agreements with some of them.

Democrats and liberals favor fair trade, not corporate coup d'etats. The greatest opposition to the TPP comes from progressives.

If you are talking about politicians in Washington, I agree. That is not what the polls show about people outside of the Beltway however, unless you have seen some that I have not.

But you are right. Liberals tend to support trade. Conservatives (outside the Beltway) tend to oppose trade - largely still 1920's-style republicans.
