http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-34736941It follows threats from the white supremacist KKK to use "deadly force" against those protesting about the killing of a black teenager in Missouri
Anonymous, a loose coalition of hackers, said the data was "a form of resistance" against racial violence.
A list of alleged KKK members published earlier in the week appears to have been bogus.
The list appears to detail social media profiles of people who had joined or "liked" KKK-related groups on Facebook and Google+. Many of the profiles featured racist imagery and slogans.
Anonymous said it had used human intelligence - not hacking - to create the list.

(28,979 posts)So like those old wanted posters I used to look at in the Post Office when I was a kid. It is kind of funny.

(14,449 posts)I didn't recognize one name. One person ran for mayor in a town in Maryland. Have no idea if he won or not or how long ago. The list is ridiculous and not sure why it was needed to be released.

(2,003 posts)Looking at some of the Facebook profiles, I don't think many of these people are particularly upset about being outed as KKK.

(2,003 posts)I don't know how it was that people actually thought this list was going to contain a trove of powerful Republicans.
As far as the right wing in concerned, the Klan is like MySpace. It might have been cool once, a long time ago, but today it's the abode of losers.
In the 1920s, the KKK boasted 6 million members. That's more than the NRA. Today, best estimates have membership at a paltry 4-6K tops; mostly ex-cons, meth-dealing bikers, redneck trailer-trash and federal informants. They wield no real power or influence in the South. Nobody is joining the Klan in 2015, least of all politicians.
They may be stupid but they're not that stupid.
