Is a hotdog a sandwich?

There seems to be a debate about this.

Sandwich:
1.
an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal.

A tomato is a fruit.

Knowledge is knowing that tomatoes, jalapenos and eggplants are fruit.
Wisdom is knowing they don't belong in a fruit salad.

If you eat either a hamburger or a hot dog with out the roll or bun, you are still eating a hamburger or a hot dog. If you eat cold cuts with out the bread, you are eating a roll up. You do not need the bread for a hotdog, there fore not a sandwich.

Thu Nov 5, 2015, 09:39 PM
Nov 2015

The Obama campaign was so thorough that they had volunteers at the local office make bag lunches and then delivered them to the launch party houses. You got a lunch for knocking on doors.

We hosted two weekends of launches and the last weekend GOTV launch.

The first time the lunches (with cold drinks mind you) were delivered I got to the end of the day and realized I hadnet eaten anything. I open a bag and there is a hot dog bun with peanut butter and jelly inside. I started laughing. Either they ran out of bread or this is some hippie (I mean that in an endearing way) creation. Not too bad. The other creation that stopped me in my tracks was turkey with jalapeño - damned good.

So, a "currywurst hotdog" in Austria is a currywurst in a hotdog bun. Or in England, a "chicken hamburger" is what we would call a "chicken breast sandwich" in a hamburger bun. In the US, "hamburger" refers to the ground beef itself (and can be used by analogy, eg "turkey hamburger&quot and "hotdog" is the particular kind of sausage.

But also very tasty, esp at a ballgame. Generally, with a heart condition, I know this is a forbidden delicacy. So when I throw caution and health to the wind, I go all the way by dressing a foot long polish sausage with onion relish, pepper, and plenty of ketchup and mustard. It makes me hungry for one just talking about it.

Sandwiches are square.
Or round, in the case of breakfast sandwiches on a bagel.

Also the meats are square.
Or pulled, as in pulled pork.
Or, or, chopped up into discrete chunks, as in chicken salad.

But no self-respecting sandwich could possibly be shaped like a dirty gym sock filled with gushy soft innards.
Unless it's a nori roll.

Huh.
I might have to rethink my answer.
