Last straw? Not letting me listen to the music I've paid for on my own phone, offline. Now I have to stream every song, using data, even for music I bought on CDs and imported. Even though the songs are on my goddamn phone, taking up memory, I can't listen to them offline.
iPhone 6s is a lovely piece of technology. Too bad Apple got greedy and probably broke the law and had to ruin it. There has to be a class action lawsuit over this shit.
Assholes.
Fuck Apple.

(21,115 posts)because Android 6 is trying to be like Apple....no MicroSD Drive....
I am very happy with this Samsung 5...I took my MicroSD out of my S3 and plopped it right into the S5 and there were all my audio books, music and images...like magic.....and I was off to the races!

(5,299 posts)the S6 doesn't have a removable battery.
External batteries are not the same thing; if my phone dies, I want to be able to swap now, not ten minutes (or more) from now.

(21,115 posts)I think the S7 will be a rethink about that....

(9,610 posts)Copying your CDs is copyright infringement. Locking down the iPhone to only access locations of known non-infringing material does not come across as illegal either.
I would not use one because it is way too expensive, I go for inexpensive because I am poor.

Fuck Apple. Won't even let me listen to music I fucking paid for.
All in order to force people to pay for their shitty Apple Music service.

(31,464 posts)That's not Apple's problem. How come my iPhone works just fine? I have over 10,000 songs on my Mac, easily sync playlists to my phone. The phone won't hold all the music, so it's kind of nice to have the option of cloud storage, even though I rarely use it. Amazon Prime music gives me a fantastic alternative either way.
Anyway, you're bucking the trend, good for you. Industry says 30% of new iPhone sales have come from Android users who've given up. But as sure as the sun is gonna rise, someone is gonna complain about Apple because they couldn't figure out a new feature on their iPhone.

(68,868 posts)subway this morning when ALL of my music suddently became unavailable. Music that IS ALREADY ON MY PHONE.
This is Apple's misconduct.
I'm going to talk to a class action lawyer about this. They're conspiring with the cell carriers to FORCE people to stream their own goddamn music, driving up data usage.
Dishonest, greedy assholes.
I'm glad Steve Jobs is tanking at the theaters.

(31,464 posts)That's quite a crazy conspiracy theory you've got going on there. Evil Apple even turned off your music while you were listening to it? Weird, because I have an iPhone and the music I ripped from my own CDs is still there, the music I sync to my phone is still there. But what do I know...I just use the damn thing, and it works. I'm not the one claiming Apple is out to somehow make money by somehow forcing you to use a service they don't even charge you for.

Will I miss a few games? Yep. Is that enough to pay more for a less powerful phone (with a relatively crappy screen) that weighs more, is less customisable, has a worse camera and smaller battery?
Not for me.

(41,694 posts)I've avoided Apple like the plague ever since they came out with the Macs and got all proprietary about everything.
Their hardware specs are not worth the price they want and the software shouldn't be that expensive either.
Atman
(31,464 posts)What software? Mac OS software updates are free. And what do you mean "ever since they came out with the Macs and got all proprietary?" You mean, like 35 years ago or something? You still upset about that? Also, there is no point in the old hardware specs argument. Reliability and quality have been proven over and over again from virtually every computer magazine, website and consumer index, except for "I Totally Hate Anything Apple" magazine, to which you are apparently a subscriber. So you probably don't have much real-world knowledge of them. But that's cool. It's always a fun source of arguments on DU.

(31,464 posts)I don't even know if it had a model number. I metal case with a keyboard that clipped to the front, acting as protection for the tiny 9" monochrome green screen. It was truly portable, very similar to what would eventually be the Lisa. So you have some bona fides, great. But you still just sound like a gear-head telling people they should just build their own cars because the Shelby Cobra you worked on in high school was so boss.

In my experience, the iPhone is the best phone for people who are heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem or are not tech savvy ("It just works." . Android is much more customizable - I get exceedingly frustrated every time I try to set up something on a family member's iPhone.

(20,851 posts)Apple claimed it was a glitch. Luckily I has it all backed up. I stopped buying apple because the only product of theirs I used was the ipod and now they don't make them. Their replacement is costly, has less memory, and too many features I don't need.
I'm glad the old ipods still have a lot of life. Not sure what I'll do when it gives up the ghost.

(44,130 posts)They have an iPod touch they introduced in July 2015. They also manufacture and sell the iPod nano and iPod shuffle.

(20,851 posts)My old Ipod "classic" is gone. They stopped making them. They are now something of an item on the used market because people still like them over the replacement touch and nano due to size and durability issues with the other. As I said the newer products don't work for me as I needed to full size of the old Ipod classic and don't need most of what the touch does that mine doesn't. I think the Touch will eventually scale up its memory size and be a suitable replacement, but honestly it is more a generational thing. Younger people could, stream, etc... older people want to use their collection. Apple always goes younger and ignores the older crowd.
emulatorloo
(44,130 posts)You didn't specify they weren't selling the classic.
Not trying to be picky with you. Just don't want our resident obsessed apple-haters to latch onto 'Apple doesn't sell iPods' and add that to their arsenal
Oldster here too lol. I rarely stream, always like to play from device itself too!
I had the model before the classic, loved it. The mechanical hard-drive failed, I could have replaced it myself but at the time coastwise it didn't make sense. Hope your classic lives forever!
At some point I got a good deal on a 32gb iPod touch. I was not sure I needed the other features but found out I enjoyed them. Plus no mechanical hard drive which made me feel

(2,273 posts)I have Amazon Prime so I get a lot of the free music through prime but if I own any of it they don't make me stream it, it can be on my phone and play.
TwilightGardener
(46,416 posts)I could upgrade, but it works OK. One thing though, is that some of my itunes music has been "greyed out". It's there in the lists, but can't play it, and can't get it to download again from the computer itunes program. Music we paid for. Pisses me off. I don't stream anything.
Atman
(31,464 posts)The grey-out songs means you own them, but they weren't selected when you last synced with iTunes. For instance, you may own an enter album, but only like three songs on it, so at some point you deselected those songs (it makes it convenient to block stuff for shuffle play). Unless they're also on the cloud (doesn't sound likely), you'll have to reselect them in iTunes then sync your phone. It will give you a status bar indicating how much space you have available.
Again, no one has taken anything from you or is making you stream anything. The user ultimately controls the settings, even if they don't realize they have the ability to do so. If you're not sure how to do it, there are probably a hundred help sites online that will guide you through it. Or you can drop by an Apple store, but they try to sell you an upgrade, of course.

(21,506 posts)I would take a long hard look at the new nexus phones.
Not only are they great phones but if you are so inclined you can use them with Googles new wireless service that runs on the tmobile and sprint networks and hands off to whichever has better coverage for you automatically. That by itself is awesome but on top of that it is cheap it starts at $20 per month for unlimited talk and text and $10 for each gig of data you use after that.
I am kicking myself for buying a motox a few months before the new nexuses came out. The Moto x is a great phone but is not google fi ready.
As an added bonus nexus phones get Android updates first and dont have weird skins on them that impact performance.
