Oh and a number of progressive Democratic mayors are on that list.
Is that all it takes to believe that it's true?

(1,881 posts)for a member of the Klan to go undetected than to be a seen as a Democrat? I would not be so quick to dismiss it.
do tell us which ones are fakers.
i won't be holding my breath.

(1,881 posts)telling me that all Republicans and Democrats are on the up and up? Where is this land of Unicorns and Fairies that you live in? I'm not blinded by party loyalty that I can't see the forest from the trees. I'm not dismissing anything till I see and hear everything. But if you want to put your fingers in your ears and say "lalalalalala Not listening lalalalalala" then be my guest.

(13,390 posts)The Smiths, Jone's, Johnson's, etc could wind up in at least being mistaken for someone on that list.
Progressive Democrats? I knew 2 MO House members who were devoted economic prograssives and staunch advocates for medicaid. Yet they sponsored legislation to ensure that the confederate flag could fly on all state property.

a list is not evidence. see how easy it is?

(13,390 posts)I'm saying that being a Dem is not an automatic disqualifyer and there could even be something widely understood to be evidence. However, not all bigots join a club with criminal and hateful intentions.
I find micro-aggressions (and the refusal to admit and address them), vs outright criminal behaviors and endorsement pretty much equally contemptable. But, the direct results could be very different even if one enables the other.
I don't think that the consequences should be the same. The lines should not be manipulated or blurred as they were with the red scare, the way so many people of Middle Eastern descent have been treated since 9\11, and most relevant, the horrors that have been the results of assumptions that people of color live with daily.
I think I would find it satisfying to see actual KKK members face social, professional, legal penalties. But, I'm not so sure that setting up conditions which would leave room for errors and witch hunts is justifiable whether it is governmentally or privately driven.

(36,063 posts)The problem with releasing lists of names is too many names are shared.
I hope they've thought about how to protect the innocents.

(29,098 posts)Personally I would not be surprised if much of it is true...but we will never know for sure will we. Damage done to both sides....the named and those naming...cancel each other out...Although if any future questions arise about any of these listed individuals moral character, even with proof it will be seen as a vendetta.... Frankly it gave me a momentary thrill but these folks will get re-elected if they choose to run.

For those unaware of the references, a major movie is slated for release this Friday: Trumbo, starring Brian Cranston and Diane Lane. It looks to be very promising.
I have the utmost respect for Dalton Trumbo. He fought the good fight and remained true to himself and his beliefs in the face of overwhelming challenges. I named my son after him.
