Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy apologies to all who I thought secretly in my mind were misspelling a word for YEARS now!
And being internally judgmental!
It is me who is the dummy... LOL
The word:
whinge
I always thought of it as a misspelling of 'whine".
Whinge is actually a better word most of the time, meaning - complain persistently and in a peevish or irritating way, vs, Whine - a long, high-pitched complaining cry.
Mea Culpa and my confession is done!

(14,255 posts)I assume people will think I have just misspelled whine (my keyboard does stick sometimes, and capitals are iffy; I just consider all misplaced lower case a tribute to archy and mehitabel), but that's okay.
My peeves are the misuse of peek, peak, and pique, "alot" (reminds me of busily texting teenagers), and mixing rein and reign.

(36,223 posts)The older I get and I'm not that old, but still... I tend to make the kinds of mistakes you note above. Most times I catch it before hitting the post button and say to myself, WTH is wrong with you.... And sometimes I just completely miss it.
Also, I use to be able to catch misspellings by others easily, now I don't catch them like I use to.
I'm attributing all of this to reading so many misspellings on the internet that my brain has gotten fuzzy! LOL
