The Durham monument sits in front of what was once the county courthouse (now aka "the Old County Courthouse"
, but a new courthouse was later built across the street, and more recently a still newer courthouse several blocks away
I don't know what will happen with the Durham monument. I'd probably spray-paint it with garish fluorescent colors, hang a "Reduce-Reuse-Recycle" sign on it, and move it down to the recycling center entrance --- but in a recent panic our whack-a-doodle legislature passed a law requiring their approval to do anything with these things
