http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/anonymous-hackers-threaten-reveal-identities-1000-ku-klux-klan-members-opkkk-1525758The on-going battle between the KKK and Anonymous began during the protests in Ferguson last year, which erupted in the wake of a grand jury decision to not indict police officer Darren Wilson for killing unarmed black teenager Mike Brown. During the protests a local chapter of the KKK known as the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan (TAKKKK) warned protesters that "lethal force" would be used against them....
"We are not attacking you because of what you believe in as we fight for freedom of speech," Anonymous said in a statement released last week. "We are attacking you because of what you do to our brothers and sisters.
"Due to your actions we will be rearranging Operation KKK. We've gained access to yet another one of your KKK Twitter account. Using the info obtained, we will be revealing about 1000 of your klan member identities. The aim of the operation is nothing more than cyber Warfare. Anything you upload will be taken down, anything you use to promote the KKK will be shut down."
Sort of like an Ashley Madison for racists. Any guesses?

(55,445 posts)Not sure how much good it would do to 'out' them though... These folks tend to live-work-play in similar-thinking communities so I don't think the shame factor will be very high...

That would be a good thing.

And the LOE supervisors, and the fraidy-pants legislators?
Whatever happened to some real, good, women and men that would put ethics and humanity above bigotry and personal welfare?
OBTY, 1SBM, thanks for being here. I don't know you but you are one of the reasons I keep on paying attention to DU.

(7,107 posts)If they are already in the KKK, then they are probably looking forward to seeing their name on the list.

(31,849 posts)there is case law holding that klan membership is incompatible with holding a position in law enforcement (including, corrections) ... So, I'm thinking no, they are not looking forward to seeing their name on the list.

(53,794 posts)Why do you think Rove had the meltdown on FOX that night? He just knew his cheating was going to work but it didn't. Anonymous shut down the Rove/Romney's get out the vote operation.
I believe they will out these kkk racists and they won't be happy about it. These bastards have jobs, memberships in organizations other than the kkk, their kids go to school they damn sure won't be happy that they are publicly revealed to be heinous racists.

(9,527 posts)But given that there was 0 evidence of what they claim and the ORCA software was a failure at get out the vote, making it unlikely to be a super secret powerful vote rigging software, I don't think anybody really takes those claims seriously.

(423 posts)1) Anon has messed up before by 'outing' the wrong person(s)
2) When doing stuff like this, do they ever consider that they might be hampering or interfering with ongoing law enforcement investigations?
3) As a rule, I detest hackers regardless of their intent or purpose. Anon is no different, and should be arrested
and prosecuted for their criminal misconduct if possible

(14,912 posts)a bunch of "script kiddies" who plant viruses or take control of your computer. You'd never even know a true hacker was there.
That being said, I fully support Anonymous and their taking over the sites of bigots and hatemongers. Like they said, they support freedom of speech, but *actions* have consequences. ALL of the KlanKlowns are cowards who hide their faces/identities under masks/hoods & robes.
As I always used to say many years ago, "There's always a ghost in the machine somewhere".
Peace,

(53,794 posts)Remember his freakout on FOX on election night in 2012? They put a stop th his election rigging and he didn't realize it until the results he anticipated in Ohio didn't come in.
They proven to be left-leaning with the things they do.

(20,856 posts)Criminal activity is criminal activity and I trust criminals only so far as I have to. I don't love hackers, but sometimes benefit from their activity. Sometimes though we get burned by their activity, and always this activity is of questionable criminality and ethics. I know their are Robin Hood of hackers out there, but there's a lot of scumbags and we know it.

(13,390 posts)I'm not so sure that this is a good idea, actually.
During the protests last year, someone tweeted photoshopped pics of the members of the PD wearing Klan garb. The people who are living this struggle daily don't need an incentive to go after people who are outed. If anyone on the list gets hurt, the immediate suspects will be people of color associated with Black Lives Matter. They live with enough risk without creating the potential for conditions where they are profiled for something else.
