My brother responded to a crisis and united the country, he organized our country and he kept us safe, the GOP hopeful told Tapper. And theres no denying that. And the great majority of Americans believe that. And I dont know why he keeps bringing this up.
Tapper wondered if Bushs loyalty to his brother might be in some ways a political or policy liability blinding you to mistakes he made.
Its what you do after that matters, Bush insisted. Does anybody actually blame my brother for the attacks on 9/11? If they do, theyre totally marginalized in our society. Its what he did afterwards that mattered, and Im proud of him. And so are a bunch of other people.
Obviously al Qaeda was responsible for the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the CNN host pressed. But how do you respond to critics who ask if your brother and his administration bear no responsibility at all, how do you then make the jump that President Obama and Secretary Clinton are responsible for what happened at Benghazi?

(24,445 posts)Terrorist attacks against us have been relatively rare throughout our history (thankfully). Which, isn't to say that there isn't a legitimate threat but what (Bill) Clinton and Obama have done during their terms in office, in general in terms of fighting terrorism, has been more effective and less hysteria-driven than what the Bush (mis-)Administration and the MSM were doing during the 2000's IMHO.

(24,445 posts)however that outrage was directed towards Bill Clinton, who hadn't been POTUS for 8 months before the attacks (and probably would've been more aggressive about thwarting it than Bush/Cheney apparently were). Now, Republicans have spent 2-3 years being perpetually outraged about a (yes) tragedy where four American diplomats lost their lives in an attack in Benghazi. Their "outrage" is always dialed way up on anything where a Democrat might be involved and is always severely disproportionate to what actually happens (kind of makes me wonder how healthy they can be remaining perpetually upset and angry all of the time. Can't be good for their hearts, right?).

Whether Bush was "to blame" or not - a useless exercise that generates Trutherism of which Trump is as well known a fan as Birtherism....the point is you can not deny blame for one and then assign blame for another based on whose political party you are blaming!
Does not compute!

(8,760 posts)I have long held that if a Democrat was President during 9/11, he would have been removed from office.
I wouldn't even like to contemplate Republican behavior if this had happened to President Obama.
Republicans have no loyalty to this country when a Democrat is in charge.
Bill Clinton was more interested in getting Bin Laden in 1998 that George Bush was SIX MONTHS after 9/11.

And how about what the GOP did after Benghazi? They used the tragedy as their excuse to conduct the longest congressional special investigation in US history for the admitted reason to bring down a Democratic presidential candidate's poll numbers. And spent millions of dollars on that opp research fishing expedition on behalf of the RNC rather than on increased security for US embassies.

And Condeleezza Rice was right there in the room as well - and she simply proceeded to dismiss the report.
We Americans should NEVER forgot critical little bits of documented history such as this one - they tell us everything about the competency and mentality of the people concerned.

(269,211 posts)That was delish
WASHINGTON (The Nil Admirari) - Earlier today, Republican presidential candidate and former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush confessed he didn't actually know what the word "safe" meant until today. The revealing admission followed Jeb's incessant statements asserting his brother - former President George W. Bush - "kept us safe" despite nearly 3,000 Americans being killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.
"I think it is clear that I didn't actually know what the word 'safe' meant until today. This morning, one of my campaign staffers did a Moogle search or something, and finally showed me what the definition of 'safe' is," explained Bush, who appeared to be fascinated by the ease with which all his confusion had been remedied.

(750 posts)Getting a good movie on free air television is rare, besides the programming is decades of reruns. But on local Chicago television the movie called The Cat and the Canary played in the afternoon hour with Bob Hope rattling off jokes.
This was a haunted house scenario, from a series called Ghost breakers one of the movie script jokes was about Republicans circa 1930.
Bob Hope said Oh they say they are going to bring the dead back to life, you must be talking about Republicans.
I just got a kick out that line it rings true to this day.
Oh Jeb, you mean 911 was not George Bushs fault, look a little closer, all will agree George held the door open for the Arabs to get in the country and Jeb redacted all the federal files that helped the Arab Bin Laden family get out of the country.
Ladies and gentlemen of America welcome to the GOP political Georgie/ Jeb show in decades of profiteering, swindling, lies, cover ups torture, and metadata freelancing. All with the help of the American Broadcasting system and likely very powerful Arab/European money influence.
Jeb avoids the obvious cover-up that is real true treason. The Bush Crime Inc. family has been close friends and business partners with the Bin Laden for decades this is the same family of the architect of terror, torture, and 911, an Arab Osama Bin Laden.
The basic fault is the America citizen is not being serviced honestly by the network that is licensed to do so. Listening to Jeb or George and letting the Bush Crime Inc. family get away with the greatest political crime swindle in the history of America is a basic across the board suppression by the media. The media is the key player of the military industrial complex.
The intentional fear and terror, and waterboarding torture imposed during this era is a deranged and unconstitutional political show that will always haunt the Republican Party forever.

Benghazi happened in a place most Americans never even heard of ... and many still don't know where it is. For that matter, some still don't even know where Iraq and Afghanistan are.
Per the record, Bush II knew full well about 9-11 in advance. There are lots of other reasons to doubt the "official" story and perhaps some day, we will all know more.
Also per the record, GOPer cuts in embassy security more directly resulted in the Benghazi tragedy than any single other cause.
