Trump outrages GOP by claiming that GWB was President on 9/11

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/10/16/donald-trump-suggests-george-bush-failed-to-stop-911-attacks/

On Friday, Mr. Trump, who is leading most Republican presidential polls, offered his rivals another reason why he might not really be one of them when he noted that President George W. Bush had failed to stop the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

...

“When you talk about George Bush, I mean, say what you want, the World Trade Center came down during his time,” Mr. Trump said.

Blaming 9/11 on Mr. Bush is taboo for Republicans and has largely been off-limits for Democrats. Pressed on whether he really meant to blame the attacks on Mr. Bush, the billionaire developer did not back down.

“He was president, O.K.?,” Mr. Trump said. “The World Trade Center came down during his reign.”

...

While many Republicans have kept their distance from George W. Bush since he left office, the former president’s popularity has improved over the years. The harsh criticism of his legacy from Mr. Trump could cause blowback from Republicans who think of the former president fondly or consider it unfair to argue that he could have stopped the attacks.

Jeb called Trump pathetic for daring to claim that GWB didn't keep the US safe on 9/11.

There is no global warming. Okay, there is, but it's not man-made. Okay it is, but it's actually something good.

Rumors about them being officially helped to fly out during flight ban was false. They left on a private charter plane when airports reopened after the attacks. I wish people would focus less on petty details from that attack, and more on what it is still being misused for.

I happen to think the DEVIL is in the details.

Moreover, why were they allowed to leave AT ALL, as relatives and thus potential sources of info about Osama and his habits, whereabouts, finances, etc.? HMMMM???

Bush knew.

Former antiterror adviser says Bush ignored 9/11 warnings

CBS, July 29, 2004

The White House's former counterterrorism coordinator blasts President Bush in a television interview and a new book, saying the president ignored warnings about terrorist attacks before 9/11 and has done "a terrible job" battling terrorism since then.

"Frankly, I find it outrageous that the president is running for re-election on the grounds that he's done such great things about terrorism," Richard Clarke told CBS' "60 Minutes" in an interview Sunday night. "He ignored it. He ignored terrorism for months, when maybe we could have done something to stop 9/11. Maybe. We'll never know."

Clarke said he asked for a Cabinet-level meeting in January 2001, shortly after the president took office, to discuss the threat al Qaeda posed to the United States. "That urgent memo wasn't acted on," Clarke told CBS. Instead, he said, administration officials were focused on issues such as missile defense and Iraq.

I've always thought that that might have been the primary purpose of the anthrax attack. Essentially, the Bush administration got control over the National Enquirer's entire historical files - all those documents and photos going back decades.

and the Bush administration ignored him. Condi Rice had higher priorities, like shopping for shoes in NYC.

Presidential medal CIA director, George Tenet was busy cherry picking intel to do a slam dunk war on Iraq. Cheney was busy talking to oil exec's about how to divide oil wells in Iraq amongst themselves. Bush was riding his bike and clearing brush in TX.

bush only had 8 months to deal with the coming attack. That wasn't nearly enough time to prepare against an attack the outgoing Clinton administration warned them about. To say nothing about the warnings and information from numerous nations.
It was a terrorist attack, so it was supposed to be a surprise. Warnings kinda spoil surprises. The bush administration wanted to surprise us.

Maybe it's just their way of filling a time slot, but I find it enormously frustrating--and I suspect a lot of other busy people do, as well.

it's just that he's succeeding beyond his wildest dreams that has him thinking of making it real.

It's all hilarious until you consider that he could actually win the republican nomination. Then if we have a candidate who implodes for some reason ... yikes, the thought of Trump actually winning the GE is terrifying.

I've seen no evidence he tried to stop it.
The reason the FBI and other organizations who learned about various members did not realize something bigger was happening were turf wars between agencies so that they never talked. Those two bits af fact, far more than his reading of my pet goat on the day is proof he didn't keep us safe.
