Lots of players and fans are superstitious about these things.

me before the first game, the Royals hadn't lost a playoff game in thirty years. Not many teams can boast that particular record.

The Royals had indeed not lost a playoff game to an American League team in 30 years, that being Game 4 of the 1985 League Championship Series against Toronto. It helps that (1) the Royals hadn't been in the post-season since then; and (b) they won every playoff game in 2014 against American League teams, beating Oakland in the Wild Card Game, sweeping the Angels in the LDS, and sweeping the Orioles for the pennant.

For those of you who live in the Kansas City area, my sons both attended the Barstow School. As a fundraiser for the knowledge bowl club, they had a t-shirt printed up which said "Undefeated in football since 1884". The school was founded that year. Never had a football team.

Saying it was encouragement, not a prediction. Uh huh.

Have to admit, going to the 8th inning, I thought the Royals were cooked. Trailing 6-2, Minute Maid Park going nuts, and KC hadn't strung together two hits all post-season. Then single, single, single, single, single, error (really another single in my scorebook), and a bases-loaded ground out later, and KC is up 7-6. Amazing.

A two-run "oh, by the way" homer by Eric Hosmer in the ninth put the icing on the cake.

Don't quit on this team. My Royals never quit on themselves.
