Actually . . . . it isn't funny at all.

All the news and all the talk is about the process of finding some chump to be the repubican Speaker. No chump wants the job because of the Krazy Kaukus.

While that's all great fodder for years of jokes, the fact is, the country is heading lickity split toward a cliff. Debt default. Out of spending authority. Just for the openers.

All because 45 Kooks want ideological purity and THEIR agenda and are will willing to burn down the house to get it.

Something really needs to be done about all this.

If I were a Member I would be talking with as many reasonable repubicans as would listen to get a Speaker elected who would sit down hard on the Krazy Klowns. I would be working to get a Speaker with TRUE bipartisan support.

Yeah, I know. There are some on our side who want nothing to do with the other side of aisle. Normally, I'm one of them. But consider: the very foundations of our government are at risk. If I had to make common cause with the likes of, let's say, New York's Peter King, I would do it for the sake of the country. An actual American-form coalition government, or at least the closest we could come to one within the framework of our Constitution.

How could this come about? Here's something to chew on: Wall Street hates chaos. We now have chaos. They will find a way to end it. Since they bought, paid for, and now own most non Kook politicians, they could start calling in chits.

That could do it.

And then what do we have?

I'm surprised that my rep, Trey Gowdy(excuse me while I vomit) isn't a member, but I read that the membership is fluid and secretive. One writer compared it to Fight Club. The first rule of Freedumb Caucus is don't talk about Freedumb Caucas.

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/10/09/3711011/this-document-reveals-why-the-house-of-representatives-is-in-complete-chaos/

"Why the Freedom Caucus has so much power

The House Freedom Caucus, a relatively new group of about 40 Republicans loosely associated with the Tea Party, has an extraordinary amount of power in this process. Any potential speaker needs the support of 218 Republicans on the floor of the House. There are currently 247 Republicans in the House. That’s a large majority but without the Freedom Caucus, no candidate can get to 218."

This isn't fun or funny. It is serious and important.

The wacky demands of this caucus should be openly discussed so that the sane Americans are fully aware of how Congress is being held hostage, & effectively rendered impotent to legislate.

I don't know why we aren't hearing the whys & whatfors to this insanity.

4. Wonder if this was Boehner's plan to begin with.

Oct 2015

He offers to leave before they can kick him out, so he can "grudgingly" stick around while the GOP circles the drain trying to find the least crazy member that can be voted in to replace him. (I wouldn't doubt Pelosi suggested it to him.) The threat to quit keeps him in the position of control of the situation, not the petty tea-party dictators who might be attempting to mount a coup from the background where they can hide behind a mob.
With the amount of clowns milling about stepping on each other, Boehner could easily remain Speaker until next year's summer recess, just in time for the 2016 elections.

Their goal is the overthrow of our current democratic system to be replaced with a dictatorial system of government. What else explains their my way or highway form of doing things. What better way of destabilizing and overthrowing our current system of government then through government shut downs and crashing the debt limit. These people are traitors to our country. They need to be removed from government and investigated for seditious activities.

It is my understanding that you don't have to be a member of the house or any elected position to be Speaker.

This sounds insane. This means that someone could be two heartbeats away from the presidency... And it could be absolutely anybody. Yeah... It's not funny at all.

Use your imagination. What would keep the RW crazies from bringing in someone from the extreme Right...I mean really the EXTREME. Two heartbeats away and we would have a dictator.

That's the 'shrink it down' philosophy many of them share with big business. Less government= less regulation and fewer social/public programs. The obstruction and the government shutdowns are a part of the strategy to convince Americans that the government doesn't work and that the private sector would do a better job of delivering what are now public services (think Postal Service, Social Security, public education, etc.).

And we're all going to bear the brunt of this lunacy. But the only people in a position to do something about it are the responsible adults of the House Republican caucus. This is 100% their show, even though the consequences affect all of us.

The rest of us are hostage to this eyeball-to-eyeball game of chicken. The only good thing I can see coming out of it is a reaffirmation of why certain things are the way they are. But there's a strong possibility that we'll have to have the disastrous alternative play out in real time in real life for the stone-brained bomb-throwers and their enablers to learn the lesson.

I totally agree with you Stinky, but any reasonable Republican (if there are any) is terrified of being primaried. See Eric Cantor. If they join with Democrats now, then they will have a far right challenger come the next election. This is what kept Boehner from doing anything. Now that he has given up his seat, he is actually free to get some meaningful things done, so let's hope he takes advantage of it.

If you read this article on Think Progress, it will show you what the Krazy Kaukus is requiring of anyone who wants to be the Speaker. It is truly frightening.
