Conservative pundits, such as Michelle Malkin and Cal Thomas have been critical, but for his support of social welfare programs and climate change. But now I'm wondering why our president is denouncing "sinners" who "pervert and distort our faith"? Look, I like President O. I voted for him. But since when has the President of the United States become our spiritual leader? If I want to hear that claptrap, there's a couple hundred churches within driving distance for me!

Since (some) citizens practice and promote Islamophobia and carry unfair, inaccurate, and dangerous accusations of terrorism to members of an entire faith. It is exactly like accusing all people of another particular race or culture to be dangerous and frightening. "All black people...; all Italians...; all Jews...; all Asians...; all Roman Catholics...; all LGBT..."

But here's mine -- all presidents should do everything he or she can to dispel all bigotry and discrimination in our country. So, IMHO, he'd be negligent to ignore it, and must speak to the truth of the matter. He should denounce them. The use of the word 'sinners' would not be my choice, but considering the venue and his audience, I'm okay with it. Perhaps using a phrase such as 'unconscionable and disgusting' would be more accurate but less PC.

During the McCarthy era. That's when "under God" was added to the pledge, and "in God we trust" was adopted as the national motto. All these actions were unconstitutional, IMO, but many would disagree because of the phrase "an establishment" which means probably meant one sect or cult. Anyway, that's what started us down the slippery slope where now "God" is claimed by our government, as a source of their authority. And as you've noticed, the president was very specific about what God wanted - and that superstition is coming from the head of our nation!

of hunting down godless commies was the trigger to the slippery slope. (If I remember correctly, instigated by a fundamental xian zealot.) But this president, in particular, could not shun or disavow anything 'god' related. His 'slope' is even more slippery, being a secret Muslim and all. Therefore, he was/is stuck. I stand by my analysis.

Nothing wrong with speaking the language of the audience when trying to change hearts.
