US man charged with helping cousin plan 2014 Bali murder
CHICAGO (AP) — Federal prosecutors have filed conspiracy charges against the cousin of a man convicted in the slaying of a Chicago woman at an Indonesian resort.
Prosecutors say 24-year-old Robert Bibbs of Chicago advised his cousin Tommy Schaefer and Schaefer’s girlfriend, Heather Mack, on how to kill Mack’s mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack.
Von Wiese-Mack’s body was found stuffed inside a suitcase in a taxi at a resort in Bali in August 2014. Nineteen-year-old Heather Mack and the 21-year-old Schaefer were convicted in her killing.
Prosecutors contend Bibbs knew of the plot to kill von Wiese-Mack before Schaefer and Mack carried it out. He allegedly advised them on how to kill the victim and counseled Schaefer on how to evade detection by police.
Authorities say Bibbs was arrested Wednesday.
