Republicans have voted to increase the federal deficit by more than $1 trillion dollars

Republicans have voted to increase the federal deficit by more than $1 trillion over 10 years.

Pascrell (D-9th Dist.) is the only New Jersey Democrat on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, and he seethed as the Republican-controlled panel approved approved $411.1 billion in tax breaks last week.

That brings the total to more than $1 trillion, none of it offset by other revenue raises or spending cuts. In other words, Pascrell said, Republicans have voted to increase the federal deficit by more than $1 trillion over 10 years.

Nor were the tax breaks i ncluded in the Republican budget, meaning that their outline now won't bring the federal books into balance after 10 years as originally proposed. Supporters of that budget resolution said it was necessary to cut programs such as food stamps and to eliminate traditional Medicare in order to balance the government's books.

"They're talking out of both sides of their mouths," Pascrell told The Auditor.
