Steve King (R-Idiot) wants Pope to only address two topics during congressional address

....

Danny Vinik: What do you expect to hear from Pope Francis on Thursday?

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa): I'm hopeful that Pope Francis will speak to these two issues: One is the church's unfailing and steadfast opposition to abortion, the position that life begins at the moment of conception and it ends at natural death, and the dignity of every human person. That's a position of the Roman Catholic Church that's really unassailable and I'm hopeful that that position will be reiterated from the floor of Congress next week. I'm looking forward to that. Second component that is so strong among the Catholic Church is the position of marriage, and it being between a man and a woman.

DV: Where have you taken issue with Pope Francis?

SK: We've heard some things from Pope Francis that are not fully supportive of free enterprise capitalism. That should be a problem from an American perspective. If he truly is taking a position that is critical of free enterprise, that's on our immigration test: What is the economic system of the United States? And for people about to ready to take the test, I'd remind them the answer is free enterprise capitalism.

....

DV: Could Pope Francis’s comments influence moderates to support Democratic policies?

SK: It can affect them, and of course that is a concern. But if we leave the priorities of life and marriage, which, as I've stated earlier in this interview, are solid, timeless principles of the Catholic Church and much of the rest of Christianity. By the way, Islam would agree with us on life—they just agree on more wives—and the Jewish faith, of course, agrees with us. The traditionalists agree with us on life and on marriage.

So, one of the reasons I emphasize the timeless values is that if Pope Francis would come here and address two topics and only two topics, it should be life and it should be marriage, and if he emphasized those two points and went back to the Vatican, he would leave a lasting impact on the entire United States of America and we would talk about those two issues within the parameters of the theology of the Roman Catholic Church, and I agree with both of those positions completely.

is also a head of state, and that if Bibi Netanyahu can come here and say things that some members of Congress found objectionable, why can't the Pope? In any event, King doesn't get to tell the Pope what the doctrine of the Catholic church ought to be, or whether he gets to talk about it.

8. Of course straight Democrats don't care if Francis attacks LGBT in our Congress

It is interesting to me that Democrats do not object to the anti gay and anti choice portions of Francis' rants and they seem to assume he's not going to mention that in the Congress.
I hope for our Party's sake that Francis does not attack LGBT or choice, but he is coming to the US for the curia's big 'Family Conference' and that indicates he will be on an anti equality and anti choice rail for his visit.

I wish his fans well. They invited him to this Party and how his words and actions will help to demonstrate what is in their hearts.
