Monument law is yet another overreach (NC)

... Recently, the General Assembly passed a law prohibiting the removal of monuments by local governments; the purpose is to show reverence for the past.

But is everything from the past worth hanging on to? ...

Some may find the spectacle of the statue of a Confederate soldier in the courthouse square an ironic reminder of how passionately attached we human beings can be to a wrong-headed cause.

Others, whose ancestors were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean like cattle, traded like horses, terrorized and lynched, and segregated and denied civil rights for a century, will not appreciate that soldier in the square ...
