No candidate can survive a full scale media onslaught, especially one with no powerful allies or institutional support:
Washington (CNN)Carly Fiorina has rocketed into second place in the Republican presidential field on the heels another strong debate and Donald Trump has lost some support, a new national CNN/ORC poll shows.
The survey, conducted the three days after 23 million people tuned in to Wednesday night's GOP debate on CNN, shows that Trump is still the party's front-runner with 24% support. That, though, is an 8 percentage point decrease from earlier in the month when a similar poll had him at 32%.

(6,409 posts)It's what some people say when the encounter a big, complex menu at a restaurant. "I just don't know what to order. Everything looks so good!" Except this is more like, "This menu is six pages long. Don't you have anything fit to eat?"

(99,710 posts)Any way, it's a long distance from the lip to the cup, and I don't think any of us knows how this turns out.
Trump's descent, though, was easier to see...

(1,733 posts)The poll offered some good overall news for Republicans: 65% of GOP voters said they are either "extremely" or "very" enthusiastic about voting in the 2016 presidential race, compared with 51% of Democrats.
Could we be seeing the result of "Hillary Fatigue" ??

(6,409 posts)Republicans are excited right now, because they have all these fascinating candidates appearing with each other, saying stupid sh... excuse me... making bold statements, taking shots at each other, invoking Christian values, hating on the Mooze-lims, etc. I'm sure it's all very thrilling, kind of like a bullfight with six bulls and a dozen matadors in the ring all at once. Not much is happening on the Democratic side right now. And Democrats are not as easily entertained as Republicans.

(1,733 posts)But I have never seen my republican friends, neighbors, and coworkers this wound up this early over primary candidates. Something is if different this cycle. Interesting to watch, but worrisome if it continues or builds.

(23,957 posts)this is going to be very interesting: the Kochs and the GOP establishment are going to take down the 3 leading contenders for the nomination. they're aiming for Bush/Rubio in the GE.

(54,027 posts)The place where the Dems are vulnerable is across the Rust Belt. Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, & Minnesota could all be competitive next year. We don't have the "blue wall" in the north anymore. I mean, it's nice that Virginia, Arizona, & North Carolina are in play, but their votes collectively still don't match up to the Great Lakes region. Jeb-Kasich would be a killer ticket. Those monkeys are hungry to take over the banana factory.

(23,957 posts)given that, Kasich is a good bet for the Kochs

Very true. And that SHOULD be a warning, but I doubt it will be.
