Lieberman presented a video supposedly by Al Qaeda shows they're going to cyber-attack us.
However, companies can respond to a cyber-attack by an Al Qaeda member the same way they've been responding to cyber-attacks by other people for decades.
If Congress passes his bill to allow the government to order internet shutdowns, then we'll have less confidence in our ability to connect, and therefore LESS cyber-security. If there is a computer-related crisis, we'll have less ability to find out what is going on and remedy the situation if we've been shutdown under his bill.
If companies distribute our passwords under his bill, that will also mean LESS cyber-security.
Please tell your Senators to oppose the "The Cybersecurity Act of 2012."

(35,619 posts)...believes that his bill would be used to fight Al Qaeda.
But recent history of bills which broadly violate privacy (example: The Patriot Act) shows that such bills are used against protesters and whistle-blowers.
