A North Carolina police chief claims he was forced to retire after he called Black Lives Matter an American-born terrorist group in an open letter posted to his Facebook page in early September, Reuters reports.
Surf City Police Chief Mike Halstead retired effective immediately after an emergency Town Council meeting was held on Tuesday in response to the Sept. 3 post.
In the open letter from a police chief ... Halstead blasted the Black Lives Matter movement as nothing more than American-born terrorist group brought on by the lie of the hands up, dont shoot during the criminal thug Michael Brown incident ...

(6,409 posts)I have been to Surf City. It's a resort community, built up with beach houses. Ferguson it ain't. I bet the only black people Chief Halstead sees are a few college students at spring break time. Why do cops do stuff like this? This is the chief of a small department, not at the center of urban problems, racial turmoil, etc. But he feels compelled to post this open letter thing attacking Black Lives Matter, as if he had a clue about who they are or what they say. The Fort Apache mentality, played out in small town America.

(2,860 posts)I saw this on the Nightly Show from Larry Wilmore. My parents and their friends watch Fox all the time and they think there's a war on cops. I keep telling them that Fox news is going to stunt their growth.

Sometimes, thoughts passing through your head aren't ideas at all, just germinating flatulence working its way out. Keep them from your mouth and fingertips and they'll find a natural exit.

This is an example of a system working, btw. Not nearly as well as we'd like, but working.
