Youve probably seen the story about Ahmed, the 14 year old student in Texas who built a clock and was arrested when he took it to school.
Having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest. The future belongs to people like Ahmed.
Ahmed, if you ever want to come by Facebook, I'd love to meet you. Keep building.

(60,336 posts)Republican presidential hopefuls, however, remain curiously silent. So please, Jake Tapper, broach the topic during tonight's GOP debate. As our own Kevin Drum explains, it might even give GOP candidates a shot at demonstrating that unlike their party's current front runner, "occasionally they care about obvious bigotry like this."

#IStandWithAhmed: Scientists and the public surge to support boy arrested for homemade clock
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2015/09/16/istandwithahmed-scientists-and-the-public-surge-to-support-boy-arrested-for-homemade-clock/?tid=sm_tw
The ordeal reminds many of what a young woman named Kiera Wilmot endured in 2013: Wilmot, also a budding scientist, was accused of lighting a chemical fire when one of her experiments went awry. By the time criminal charges were dropped, she had already been expelled from her school.
But in a silver lining, Wilmot was offered a trip to space camp by a NASA veteran.
Many are hoping that Mohamed can have a similar outcome, especially since he's made a heartbreaking vow never to bring an experiment to school again.
Already, Mohamed has NASA scientists offering up visits to their labs:
Anil Dash, the founder of Makerbase, is collecting ideas for how to help Mohamed -- and other kids like him -- in a Google survey.
Here is the link to the Google survey.

(51,129 posts)That tweet went out at 9:58 AM (mine clock), just 6 hours ago. We are now at:
Retweets 300,494
Favorites 283,126
50,000 retweets per hour averaged since then. And the number of favorites in proportion to the retweets is even more impressive.
