General Discussion

as I stated in another thread: never under estimate the power of the easily lead.
his mouth-breathing followers equate general statements, angry pronouncements and insults as powerful and "sticking it to the man".
because in their world, that's all these morons feel they have as a recourse to their own problems.
They get pissed when things don't go their way, insult people when they have no facts or when they are called out on their bullshit and make blanket general statements to make themselves appear smart.
but the reason they follow trump is because he's rich and trump is saying exactly what these morons are saying only on a national stage.
see how it works?

(62,530 posts)trumps mouth-breathers aren't rational people.
they are the self defeating morons who work actively against their own best interests in the face of overwhelming facts.

(37,428 posts)You'd think a political machine that wants him out would simply focus the debate on policy questions, but the rest of the field will not look any better informed; they'll just use more nuanced rhetoric, and that will play into the prejudices of ignorant Trump fans.
What I think will work against him is his knowledge that his unfiltered blather does sometimes go too far...but a blowhard who has no substance to offer can only escalate the spectacle.
I think it's a wash, that everyone who cares is already a Trump follower, and that even as some of the rest of the field drops out, there aren't that many dumbass iconoclasts left for him to win over. He's plateaued, and if his numbers drop at all it may signal his fundamental lack of commitment to anything that isn't him.

(62,530 posts)however, his mouth-breathing moron followers aside, for a moment.
Whether or not he takes money from the moneyed interest or a super pac, he's still big money.
And at the end of the day, no matter how much the entrenched GOP hates him and is, at the same time, baffled as to what to do about him, he is a money maker and that will be trumps ultimate "trump card" (sorry couldn't resist).
So what you will see, after tonight's debate of stupidity, is the GOP giving him a secret kiss on his ring.
trump may not have substance, a platform or any real notion as to what exactly to do, but he does draw in the moron base of the GOP and has his popularity grows, less of those followers will be the typical moron and will be coat tail riders.
one thing can be said for sure about the GOP and repubs; no one wants to be on the outside and they will all fall in, little by little, lock step. They just do. It happens every time.
While the beltway pundits, politicians, news regurgitaters make their proclamations about him, his mouth breathers will still support him and gain support. Because, no matter what inane vague controversial thing he says about policy, a nation or a person, real and manufactured outrage that will follow. And it's that controversy that is the life blood of the news cycle. which helps trump and gives the news endless content to retread over and over.
trumps superpower is that he knows the beat of the stupid.
while we on the thinking left see him for what he is: p.t. barnum writ large; his followers see him as a savoir of something that doesn't and has never existed, "a true speaker of the people" for the republican base.
As I stated above, he gives voice to the blithering idiot who is angry at the wrong people for the wrong reasons but is damned to admit it or realize it.
and, more over, trumps voice gives his followers credence to their belief that they were right all along.
bottom line: what baffles people about trump is: normal people are, just that, normal. If you lower yourself to the rifle toting, pro-life, fear everything, our life is ending, all immigrants are bad, mentality, then you will get it.
Or to paraphrase Darth Vader: Feel the Dark Force. it's only then you will understand. LOL

(62,530 posts)he wants to be CEO and tell his minions what to do.
the Koch brothers, believe me, will be completely on board, if they already aren't.
this is less about him being pres than it is about corporations being in full control of everything. aka fascism.

(37,428 posts)Trump's in the race for as long as he feels like talking. He will quit, but he'll quit having won what he wants from the fucked-up process.
Javaman
(62,530 posts)just because he gets on board with the Koch brothers means nothing of the sort.
do you honestly believe that various CEO's of corporations exist in a vacuum free from other Rich CEO's?
trump will be THE CEO.

(37,428 posts)They'll invest in less-odious candidates eager (and competent) to follow Koch edicts, and trust to the MSM to carefully let the air out of Trump's fake-ass campaign.

(62,530 posts)they don't care. it's business to them.
we of the thinking masses have to stop this concept that the Koch brothers and their ilk have the same set of morals and ethics that we mere morals have.

(62,530 posts)I have had the very unfortunate opportunity to witness first hand how people like the Koch brothers think.
to them it is business, but if you wish to continue to believe otherwise, it's apparent I can not dissuade you.
cheers.

(13,390 posts)I think there are a lot of people who want opportunities to cozy up to wealthy people whatever way they can. People with the disposition you mentioned might have thought they would feel like Mitt Romney, the Koch brothers, and any other person who values manners and etiquette looks down on them.
Trump is a rich guy they would like to have a beer with and bash all of the people they mutually hate. In a sense, he flatters them by making them think they have a lot in common with him.

(82,383 posts)He's a really ugly person. The mouth breathers interested now are not necessarily more numerous.
In the end, the voters figure someone who has worked in politics for years should have the Presidency. Trump has never been elected to anything else.

(62,530 posts)We are regarding trump from a thinking person stand point because we are generally rational people on the left.
trying to apply our set of standards upon someone who apparently has a very skewed view of society is impossible.
and it's just that skewed version of life that he offers to the right that is appealing to them.
and personally, I honestly believe that the right, at this moment in time, don't care about someone's bonafides regarding their political history.
they want insanity because the trump machine is feeding them red meat in the form that he's "not bound to anyone" and they are eating that up.
don't apply logic to any of this, you will make your head hurt.
