(23,664 posts)We know that Senator Sanders has pissed in your corn flakes by having the unmitigated gall to be an "Independent", and that therefore, you place more importance on the artificial construct of labels than actual adherence to the historical principles of the large D Democratic party and of small d democracy.
But what dastardly plot do you expect to uncover with a poll like this?

(16,846 posts)All voters here are technically independents. You can vote in whichever primary you choose, but you must only choose one party, and you can only vote in that party's runoff (if there is one).
I have always voted for Dems in Presidential elections, but I can vote for any party in other elections. I would say that I've voted Democratic about 90-95 percent of the time since 1988, when I first started voting. But to be honest, probably the only reason I've remained a Democrat is because we don't have a viable third party on the left.
I'm hoping the Democrats move further to the left, but I know it's unlikely for the party to change a lot anytime soon. I would be satisfied if we just became the party of FDR again.

(45,107 posts)so they mostly vote Democratic in the GE or republican. I've never heard an Independent blame a loss on another party.
cheapdate
(3,811 posts)are exactly the same as any other kind of voter in that they want the candidates they vote for to win. Some independent voters are exactly like some partisan voters in that they shit on potential allies and blame them when their preferred candidate loses. If you've never heard an independent voter blame partisan politics for their preferred candidates losing, then I don't know what to say. I certainly have. A lot.
On a minor note, there is no Independent Party in the U.S. that I'm aware of. There are third-parties, there are politicians who are unaffiliated with any party and are called Independents, and there are independent voters.

(2,427 posts)I was Independent after 08 - switched back so I could vote for Sanders in the primary. Oregon doesn't have open primaries. I will be switching back shortly after the primary.
So to answer your question, I voted PASS.
I know you probably couldn't care less but I will happily register Democratic again if the party starts to get back to where it once belonged.

(23,350 posts)I'm a registered voter, but there is no requirement to declare a party affiliation.
The fact that I contribute to Democrats, and vote the straight Democratic ticket, probably means something, but I've never gotten a membership card to the Democratic party.

(133 posts)I have been a registered Democrat since I voted for George McGovern in my first presidential election. I have always voted Democratic except for a couple of local Green Party candidates. I have seriously thought of unenrolling because of my disillusionment with the party but I always vote in the primaries and didn't want to lose that. The national party has abandoned many of the candidates nominated in Democratic primaries, in Maine elections, for a few cycles now. They have decided that the candidate was too liberal to beat a "moderate" Republican like Susan Collins or they thought the Independent candidate, Angus King, was good enough, even though he would never say who he planned to caucus with. I will never donate money to the DNC only to individual candidates.
I still have the same values and principles that I had when I was 18. I feel that the Democratic Party has left me as it has given in to corporate issues and gone to the right. I will vote for the candidate whose values most closely reflect mine regardless of their label.

I changed my enrollment to "unenrolled" after Andrew Cuomo was elected Governor in New York. I will not be associated with any political party that supports the Dark Prince. I will vote my conscience, which generally means Democratic for purposes of national elections. When it comes to NY State elections, all bets are off.
