2. "You can't say you care about working people and then do things that hurt working people." Obama said in a Labor Day speech to the Greater Boston Labor Council.
3. Obama signed an executive order requiring federal contractors to offer employees up to seven paid sick days a year.
4. He said: "I say to Congress: find a way to make paid family and medical leave a reality for all Americans," the president said. "It will be good for business, not bad for business."
5. "Republicans know that with a quality education, a good job and the freedom to make their own economic choices, there is nothing an American cant accomplish."
6. Without naming names he said: "one Republican was "bragging about how he busted unions in his state." The president was clearly referring to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who became nationally known for restricting the collective bargaining power of state employee unions as part of his efforts to cut the state budget."
7. He also slammed Christie for saying: "a union deserves a punch in the face." New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said last month that the American Federation of Teachers deserved a punch in the face for endorsing Clinton."
8. "Quoting Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, Obama said, "What is it about working men and women that they find so offensive?"

(11,833 posts)He makes the case for democrats as well as anyone I've ever seen.
Bill Clinton is great at it too.
I imagine them both giving electrifying speeches at the convention.
I don't endorse any democratic contenders yet. But I'm glad President Obama is on our side.

(2,427 posts)I don't mean to poo on the thread but man, he shoulda put them babies on and followed through.
EDIT - some folks might not know what I am referring to:
And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when Im in the White House, I will put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself, Ill will walk on that picket line with you as President of the United States of America. Because workers deserve to know that somebody is standing in their corner.

(2,427 posts)It sure would have been something to hold our collective hats upon. Missed opportunity in my book.

(3,233 posts)Obama's accomplishments are not what he fought for, but what he settled for. His "grand bargain" with Republicans would have gutted Social Security. That it failed marked the only time I was happy with the recalcitrant GOP.
Obama didn't fight. He caved.
Very very disappointing.

(38,958 posts)"Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire the Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it."

(30,750 posts)It shows that the Democratic party is still the strong party of the working and middle class. The people who are coming in here and calling us shills and corporate third way types are wrong. Democratic leadership still knows what it stands for.

(38,958 posts)I don't think it is necessarily good at all. At the best it simply means status quo and that the same battles have been fought (and we have been losing in my opinion) for far, far too long.

(51,076 posts)Keep it the fuck up. Use that bully pulpit and use it like it's capable of being used. The fourth leg, (Press,) of our three legged democracy is no more so its left to you to get the message out.
People ready history, learn what the words written in our constitution and bill of rights really mean. Then we can truly be free
