Mike Huckabee: Kim Davis Only Has to Uphold the Law 'If It's Right'

Anna Merlan
9/07/15 12:30pm
... In his continuing bid to demonstrate his weak grasp on the American branches of government and generally how we do things around here, Mike Huckabee is defending anti-gay, marriage license-denying county clerk Kim Davis, saying she only needs to uphold the law “if it’s right” ... As Stephanopoulos gazed on in bafflement, Huckabee added, with a straight face, “We either are a people of government, a people of law, and we are a nation of the people, or we are a nation under the power of the Supreme Court” ...

Mike Huckabee: As president I’d defy the courts and go to jail like Kim Davis if necessary
TOM BOGGIONI

... “I can’t see any circumstance in which I would be required to violate my conscience and — and the law,” Huckabee conceded before adding, “And if so, I think maybe there is a point at which you say either I’ll resign or put me in jail” ...

Most people realize what a nightmare it would be in this country if people selectively refused to do parts of their jobs because god, or their ridiculous interpretation of some ancient text.

The bottom line, Mikey, is if your religious baggage is making you too pious to do your job, then you need to find another job more in line with that baggage.

Davis needs to resign if she feels the need to bully people into following her religion. That's the only possible outcome here that doesn't involve years in jail for disobeying the law and violating the oath she took to perform the duties of her office--all of them.

so he has an economic incentive to keep this going. Kim herself, the group behind her, and other entities who, like Huckabee, aren't actually involved are also using this to solicit money.

GoFundMe's just closed Kim's "I'm-going-to-be-rich" account, though, refusing to be involved. Turns out so many polecats are becoming millionaires this way that GoFundMe has been forced to develop a new policy to eliminate profiteering from well-publicizing illicit activity.

If we could all refuse to obey laws we thought were 'wrong,' then this nation would be in a state of violent anarchy, and America would become a very, very dangerous place. Much more dangerous than it is now.

Because, of course, those of us who would refuse to allow their tax dollars to go to the MIC to fund 'forever wars' would be brutally suppressed. The MIC would surely get ITS money!

But medical services, mail delivery, traffic lights, water treatment, road maintenance - all that would suffer.

If so you're sort of supposed to go to jail. See Thoreau, Gandhi, King etc. It goes with the territory.
