I especially like the story about Shelly Dubbs getting union trained in an apprenticeship program!

“You have to earn it.”

That’s true for workers of all stripes, but it’s perhaps especially true for a group of Nebraska women who were among the trailblazers in jobs traditionally held by men.

It’s how Alice Dittman, who uttered that maxim, became the first female president of any bank in Lincoln. She would have liked to have attended Harvard Business School in 1952, but couldn’t because the graduate program didn’t admit women.

It’s how Sue Clark proved herself to male police officers who thought a woman couldn’t do a man’s job. In 1984, Clark joined the Omaha Police Department. She was one of a small number of female officers in the 600-person department.

when it was really tough for women. Thanks for sharing. (The linked website is a pain to use with my Kindle.)
