While I totally and whole heartedly applaud pointing out the media's failing in regards to covering Syria, you should have warned people about that image in your headline. I'm not going into it but I lost a child. now my day is fucked.

I am the mother of a dead son. But lashing out at Kpete is really not fair. And I'll add that I don't need someone to post something like this to fuck up my day. It's pretty much always fucked up.

7. I'm very sorry for your loss as well but I do not believe that I lashed out.

I stated that I agreed with the purpose of the post and suggested that a warning be placed in the subject. I didn't report this post. I didn't insult Kpete in any way. There is nothing insulting or wrong about asking someone to include an indicator that there is triggering/horrific imagery within a post.

Either I'm reading your last two sentences wrong or you are questioning the validity of my grief and the fact that this image has made me hurt all the more today. If it is the former then I apologize for failing to understand your point. If it is the latter, I will just say this. I would never presume to expect that other people would grieve the loss of a child in the same way. I have no idea how long it has been. I have no idea what else is going on their lives. Everyone handles loss in their own way.

8. I wouldn't ever questioning your grief

I think your grief is every bit as valid and painful as mine or anyone elses. I also understand that the subject took you by surprise. I know full well how that can happen.

But I think you saying that Kpete fucked up your day is lashing out. How do you expect Kpete to take it? Kpete has been around here for a very long time and I've never known her/him to hurt anyone.

times now and it always bothers me. (As it should bother all of us). But images such as this usually do come with a warning and I think the first post on the du with this pic did come with a warning. That is an awful image. Some may have more difficulty with it than others. Every time it has come up on the news they have given a warning.

I have not been able to get it out of my head since the first time I saw it and I hate seeing it again. I only wish it had the same effect on the leaders of this world. Sadly I do not think it does.

I am very sorry for your loss and admire your strength.

Kpete probably assumed that most have already seen this pic as it has been everywhere.

Btw, I cry at least once a week over the deaths of so many, human and furkids. Fate is a sadist, imo, yet it's our duty to shine lights on the heart wrenching, brutal injustices and do what's within our powers to stop them.

out of a million is used to encapsulate a situation in a nutshell, to embody everything about what's happening

I know visual language is inherently ambiguous, but nobody's saying "oh no, one kid died": the incident drove home exactly what this war's about and smacked everyone in the face with it

The formula for saving lives inside Syria is not so simple.

That REALLY needed a warning. Please do those of us who are hypersensitive to these types of images and add a warning to your title. I and others who suffer from my condition would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you
