Kim Davis should have just resigned

that would have been the right thing to do if her conscience said that she could not give a marriage license to those legally entitled.

That would have been the humble "Christian" thing to do. That would have been the choice of her religion over her legal responsibility.

But no, she decided to put her religion over others rights.

She's an asshole not a martyr.

Fundies always think everyone should live the way they do. Unless the workplace is a church, I really don't see how bringing personal beliefs to the job is any benefit to anyone there.

She can ROT in jail...good place for her to be right now.

I maintain that she will bet a book deal about how she's so persecuted.

She got that cushy job by being hired as an assistant clerk by her mother, who was once county clerk.

She then had the name recognition to win the election to the office.

She has hired her son as an assistant clerk — trying keep it all in the family.

Can you say entitled nepotism? She's not resigning. She thinks that job belongs to her family.

What she did was about imposing her views above those of others. Those who had, in fact, prevailed under law.

It can also be called unpatriotic. These people seem to fail to realize this country goes by the rule of law and is not a theocracy.

According to one DU post (http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=7139003), the SCOTUS decision came down BEFORE Davis was sworn into office. She took the oath to support the US Constitution KNOWING that she would not provide all the services the job requires.

She had to have PLANNED this, probably with the help of the fundamentalist staffed and funded law firm that is supposedly representing her.

This is all a publicity stunt to garner support for religious extremist organizations and politicians. It has nothing to do with Kim Davis's personal religious beliefs or any true Christian tenets.

She's not putting her religion over others' rights - she's putting HERSELF over others' rights.

I completely agree with your last sentence: "She's an asshole not a martyr."

BEFORE the SCOTUS decision:

Following her election, Davis told the Morehead News, "My words can never express the appreciation but I promise to each and every one that I will be the very best working clerk that I can be and will be a good steward of their tax dollars and follow the statutes of this office to the letter."[1] ("Davis following her mother as county clerk". Morehead News (Morehead, Kentucky). November 7, 2014.)

In January 2015, she took the oath of office and began serving her four-year term as the Rowan County clerk.[17] (http://www.kentucky.com/2015/09/03/4018514_federal-judge-jails-rowan-county.html?rh=1)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Davis_%28county_clerk%29#2014_election

On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the landmark case of Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U.S. ___ (2015), holding in a 5–4 decision that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

That does not excuse her for swearing to support the US Constitution and then ignoring the SCOTUS decision. The Supreme Court and its dominance over local, state and federal law in determining constitutional rights is part of the Constitution. If she did not want to provide the services as then required by her oath of office, she should have resigned, not acted as a roadblock to people who just want the same right that Ms Davis has exercised a number of times.

Thank you for spurring me to check the facts. I should know better than to take any internet posting at face value. While Wikipedia can also be questionable, I did look at the original sources when possible - but the first paper cited in my quote is now behind a paywall.

But she's being rallied around by the people who want to make this into an issue in the hopes that they get more attention drawn on the infringement of their "religious rights". Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee (and others!) are fanning the flame. She sees herself as the princess of the movement!
