This a sad story, but even more troublesome, since adults did not even try to defuse the situation

White Tennessee teen beaten after repeating black teen’s N-word taunt during confrontation

white Tennessee teenager was badly beaten by a black classmate and five other students during a classroom confrontation over a football game.

Ethan Humphrey, 15, suffered a concussion and broken collarbone in the attack at Millington Central High School, reported WREG-TV.

The teen’s mother said some neighborhood boys became angry at her son the day before, after he declined to play football with them.

The boys surrounded Humphrey as he walked to a friend’s house, and witnesses said the teen used a racial slur.

However, the teen’s mother and other witnesses agreed that Humphrey repeated one of the other boy’s taunts and said, “My n*****s have my back, too.”

His mother said a police officer encouraged her son Thursday to fight back, but she said he feared he would be kicked off the football team.

Why would a POLICE OFFICER encourage her son to fight? How irresponsible is that? Then there is the other witnesses, why aren't they trying to defuse the situation?

.......or any other parent, for that matter, encorage his/her son to fight back? You wouldn't tell your kid to try to defend himself with a group of other kids are beating him up? Really??!!!

authority figures should behave, I think that speaks volumes about your philosophy

In fact, that sure helped the kid a lot, didn't it?

bullies, by turning their backs on the confrontation the day before. In fact what were the other people doing when the attack took place, including the teacher in the geography class? Then when the school officials placed the boy in a wheelchair, but did not provide him medical treatment or call an ambulance, this is outrageous, and not only should people be fired for this, but criminal charges.

"The boys confronted Humphrey again at the start of geography class, and five teens punched him in the head twice and slammed him into a desk and floor.

The teen’s mother said school officials placed the boy in a wheelchair but did not provide medical treatment at school or call an ambulance."

Many irrational people are limited to either two extreme choices, when reality presents us with an entire spectrum of reactions to choose from.

That may be one possible reason you're unable to understand it at all, regardless of whether you have it or not.

he can either try to defend himself and fight back or not fight back and let the others beat on him. What's the third choice?

Really. I want to know.

No. I wouldn't and neither should a police officer with any brains who is doing their job. I would not expect a cop to tell a teen to fight back under any circumstances.
