My Personal Thank You Thread To DU

At the risk of coming across as a copycat because a fellow DUer has posted a similar thread earlier, I also want to express gratitude towards this site. As a college boy who is majoring in political science, it feels great to find a place on the Internet where I can express my views with like-minded people who all are disgusted with the GOP and RW politics. DU is a like a refuge of sanity for me from all the conservatives and Paulbots infesting YouTube and elsewhere on the Internet. And I never have to worry about coming across any offensive or bigoted speech on here, like how I have seen countless people on Yahoo calling people "feminazis" for advocating women's rights or people getting called racial slurs in the YouTube comments.

Another thing about this site is that I have learned a lot already since joining just several months ago. For instance, it has opened my eyes regarding how it is unwise to trust everything I hear on the news. Prior to joining a couple months ago, I trusted every news network that isn't named Fox News because I thought only Fox News spreads lies and slants. But I eventually caught on to how anchors from other networks also frame their stories and not call the GOP out as much as they should (I'm looking at you, David Gregory), and how the top media conglomerates have an agenda that disregards the greater good and prioritizes profits.

So again, thank you to my fellow DUers.

2. I can't tell you how much I've learned from online forums

since the mid 90s and how shockingly uninformed people who only get their info from television really are.

5. Ironically, I have Republicans to thank for my interest in POSCI.

Because of them, I have become determined to learn more about which political parties and politicians best represent my interests so I can vote against a repeat of the * era that included not only the start of two wars, but also rising unemployment, social programs being butchered, and the Citizens United Decision (although the SCOTUS was responsible for that, not *).

8. It's a remote possibility that I'll run for anything.

After all, we know how thankless a president's job is, and how much nonsense PBO has had to endure from the GOP. Not to mention how there have been a handful of cases where people have tried to assassinate him. But I will concede that it would be constructive to the Democratic Party and the rest of the nation for me to shed light on issues that could use more attention if I were to run for something, such as marijuana legalization and how we're still the only industrialized nation without universal health care.

7. I'm 63, a long time liberal and political junkie

and I learn something new here all the time. DUers are incredibly well informed. After a while you recognize them by their name and just automatically click on their threads.
