Miley Cyrus Comes Out Publicly, Says She Identifies As 'Pansexual'

Miley Cyrus admits she's pansexual in a new interview with Elle UK. She explains, "I’m very open about it – I’m pansexual." For those who don't know, the website stop-homophobia.com defines the term in the following way: "Pansexuals have the capability of attraction to others regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. A pansexual could be open to someone who is male, female, transgender, intersex, or agendered/genderqueer." So, she could be interested in anyone from Laverne Cox (transgender) to Amber Heard (bisexual) to Ellen Page (lesbian) to Chris Evans (straight). In June, Cyrus talked about being bisexual in Paper Magazine and how she revealed the news to her mother, Tish, when she was just 14. She explained, "I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys. And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn’t want me to be judged and she didn’t want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has." Cyrus has also revealed that she's currently single (despite being linked to Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell). "But I’m not in a relationship. I’m 22, I’m going on dates, but I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I’m with," she added. The singer/actress has dated singer Nick Jonas and was engaged to Australian actor Liam Hemsworth. She also dated Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Patrick. Really. Love the one you're with. It shouldn't matter to anyone else except your partner, of course. I'm shocked at myself for admitting this, but I've actually kind of grown to like Miley. I still don't like most of her music -- pop just isn't my style -- but she has done some pretty interesting songs and covers. 15. One of my daughters told me she was bisexual.

And although she knew it was safe to tell me that (i.e. I'd always support her no matter what), I thought she was mostly trying on the label to see how it sounded. It's the 'in thing' these days.

She was only about 16 at the time, no sex (that I know of) and never looked at pretty girls we passed (I watched for that from the corner of my eye).

Now she's in college and is dating a dude.

Nothing really to be learned from that other than sometimes a kid (no matter the gender) truly does not know what he/she wants or is attracted to. And hey, if my daughter decides she truly is bisexual, more power to her.

Cyrus is older, of course and I don't have any reason to doubt what she says but she seems a little exhibitionist, which means being the center of attention. Nothing wrong with that, either, but I can't help but think she's caught up in the label a little. Maybe I'm wrong, doesn't matter, she can do what she wants.
