Fate of Davis Statue Goes Before Judge Today (TX)

A court in Austin will hear arguments today on whether the President of the University of Texas should be allowed to remove the statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis ...

President Greg Fenves made the decision to move the statue ...

But the Sons of Confederate Veterans sued to block the move. They say George Littlefield, the Confederate veteran and major early Twentieth Century University Regent donated money and land to the University with the specific demand that statues of Davis, as well as Generals Robert E. Lee and Albert Sidney Johnston, as well as Confederate cabinet member and later Texas U.S. Senator John Regan, be erected.

Kirk Lyons is a white supremacist lawyer who co-founded and serves as the "chief trial counsel" for the Southern Legal Resource Center (SLRC), which has effectively become the legal arm of the neo-Confederate movement. Billing itself as a defender against "heritage violations" — attacks on the culture and symbols of the Confederacy — the SLRC was formed in 1996 by Lyons and his brother-in-law Neill Payne, and it has handled a number of cases involving the Confederate battle flag. But controversy has dogged the SLRC because of Lyons' extensive extremist background, which includes his infamous wedding at the Aryan Nations compound ...

The university should cover it with trellis of evergreen vines. Asian Jasmine does well in Texas.
