The way a lot of his stuff works is that he doesn't have any actual managerial control of stuff with his name on it. His only role in any of it is getting a percentage on use of the "TRUMP" mark on the product.

It's like this...

I come to you and say,

"Hey Malaise, I want to open up a jerk chicken restaurant in Philadelphia and I want to call it 'Malaise's Best'. If you let me use your name on it, I'll write you a check every month for 10% of net revenue."

Do you say "yes" or "no"?

It's a no-lose proposition for you. If my restaurant goes belly-up, you don't make anything, but you don't lose anything either. Otherwise, you get a check every month.
