(My family moved out of North Carolina and changed it's name to avoid being drafted into the confederate army.... so I guess the donald and I have something in common.)

(55,745 posts)They saw the Kaiser's first order of business would be war, a mix of power and revenge. So, three cousins came to America. They were sore surprised to find themselves separated by the Civil War.
They spoke German in New Braunfels, along with most everyone else in town. Other German-Americans though, spoke only English and Anglicized their names.
I thought Trump family did that around World War I. The great DUer MisterP found the Donalt's family did it before the turn of the last century. Even before the Great War, many Americans didn't like the Other in the form of accents and heritage.
