http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/roger-ailes-trump-apologize-megyn-kellyFox News chairman Roger Ailes said Tuesday that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has gone too far in criticizing Megyn Kelly and needs to apologize to the network's star.
Ailes' statement came after Trump went on a Monday night tweetstorm upon Kelly's return to the air from vacation.
In a statement provided to TPM, Ailes said:
Donald Trump's surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing. Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at FOX News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise. I could not be more proud of Megyn for her professionalism and class in the face of all of Mr. Trumps verbal assaults. Her questioning of Mr. Trump at the debate was tough but fair, and I fully support her as she continues to ask the probing and challenging questions that all presidential candidates may find difficult to answer. Donald Trump rarely apologizes, although in this case, he should. We have never been deterred by politicians or anyone else attacking us for doing our job, much less allowed ourselves to be bullied by anyone and were certainly not going to start now. All of our journalists will continue to report in the fair and balanced way that has made FOX News Channel the number one news network in the industry.

(19,460 posts)If so, put me in for a buck that says Trump won't apologize.

(82,849 posts)And I'll go another dollar that says Ailes is apologizing or at least making nice to T Rump before Labor Day, with nary a mention about how awful T Rump was to Megyn Whatshername.

(81,487 posts)Sorry. I'm not impressed. Just another blonde among the legions of cookie-cutter blondes over there. Except they probably regard her as more "spunky" and perhaps slightly more photogenic than the rest. I don't give a damn who trashes megyn kelly. In my opinion, she deserves every bit of trashing she gets, just for working over there, in the first place, and buying into - and happily REINFORCING - that twisted old-man-chauvinist bubble world that Pox Noise has created. Have at it, everybody!
Retired broadcast journalist here. I'm not impressed with her. Any woman who professes to be a serious, credible journalist who allows herself to be painted up like a strumpet ready for a cocktail party, and appears on camera in those short, tight skirts who seats herself ON THE SET in such positions as deliberately and calculatedly to show off her legs all over the place - I simply cannot take seriously. It's clear (at least to me) what she's really on there for. To me she has NO credibility as ANY kind of "respectable journalist." REAL respectable journalists don't work at a shop like that.
There's this fancy-ass and very exclusive restaurant in the former OJ Simpson neighborhood not far from us where one can frequently observe rich old-fart dirty old men arriving for dinner, aiming to set up something nice for themselves because their wives aren't with them, and a few minutes later these much-younger little cuties with blonde hair and lots of makeup and short tight skirts start arriving for a hush-hush rendezvous inside the darkened, insular, designer confines. Locally, it's actually common knowledge that this kind of stuff goes on there all the time. I was in the neighborhood one day and spotted this little "AshleyMadison"-type scene playing out - about 5:30 pm or so. Noticed a neighbor of mine who was about my age but a lot more straight-laced than I am. As she and I passed each other on the sidewalk, neither of us headed toward that restaurant ourselves, I found myself wise-cracking "Awwww... isn't that sweet? It's 'Father-Daughter Night' over there!" I thought she was going to collapse on the sidewalk, she started laughing so hard!
Those same little blonde cutie-types are all over Pox Noise. Appealing to the overly large aging demographic of Anglo dirty-old-Viagra-addict viewers to whom roger ailes has so thoughtfully provided a safe haven.

(652 posts)Trump's whole routine is that he's the macho, non-PC, alpha male. Attacking Kelly is part of his strategy. It's conscious, active, strategic thinking. It's indeed loathsome, but there is zero chance he apologizes. He intends this.

(58 posts)it seems like most people that go on late night posting attacks are PWI. If nothing else, it serves to reinforce the fact that he has really bad judgement and absolutely no impulse control.

(43,198 posts)Reminds me of a scene in a mob movie where a lieutenant mouths off to the mob boss. He laughs as if you think he's brushing it off, but cut to the next scene and that lieutenant's suddenly wearing cement shoes.
I think Trump was pressing his luck when he first went up against Boss Fox. Stupidly doubling down could cost him. Given that Republicans only seem to watch Fox News, and Fox News was pretty much responsible for creating Trump in his current incarnation as a political animal, Fox could simply stop covering Trump altogether, exclude him from debates, and that air gets let out of Trump's balloon pretty fast.
It's fun to watch these disgusting creatures like Ailes and Trump fight in the mud like this. The Schadenfreude is strong.

(21,755 posts)Trump's support comes from the Fox crowd and they will manipulate their shows to take him down if that is ACTUALLY what they want to do. That part remains to be seen.

ailes created the monster trump and now he is rampaging in the village and no one can stop him.
I say let's pop some corn and enjoy the destruction he will cause Fox if Ailes doesn't back off criticizing him.

(5,955 posts)And the spice must flow.
THE ONLY REASON the stupid Fox News GOP debate got 24,000,000 viewers THIS time, instead of the 3,000,000 they got LAST time was because TRUMP was there. Ailes knows that, and presumably so does Trump. Ailes is a paper tiger, and Trump knows it. It's a hollow threat.

So this round of "who would you rather..." goes to the "journalist".

(23,664 posts)Ailes sent Kelly out to do a hack job on Trump and she came up woefully short.
Now Trump really has the upper hand and Ailes has totally lost control of the situation. His little "demand" is going to fall on deaf ears among the Fox viewers who like Trump's message, whatever the hell that is. Ailes is about to lose face big time over this, and I'm guessing Kelly will be working elsewhere by this time next year.
