After nearly deadly attack, loved ones help Nicole Cswercko smile again

Nicole Cswerckos friends and family held a fundraiser Saturday at Ralston High School to help with medical expenses after she was attacked in July. Shes very mentally strong, friend Mary Hackett said.

Three days after nearly being killed, Nicole Cswercko sat in her hospital bed, wearing fuzzy socks and chewing Big Red gum.
Childhood friend Mary Hackett, 20, and other former high school soccer teammates brought Cswercko a gift basket. Cswercko was already cracking jokes.
Shes very mentally strong, Hackett said. Shes always been that way.
On July 7, Cswercko was abducted from her day care job, beaten and stabbed. Several good Samaritans saved her from her assailant, and she then spent eight days in the hospital recovering.
