Jan Mickelson is a conservative AM radio host from Iowa. He recently floated an idea on his show about enslaving undocumented immigrants. Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Iowa radio host and influential conservative kingmaker Jan Mickelson unveiled an immigration plan that would make undocumented immigrants who don't leave the country after an allotted time "property of the state," asking, "What's wrong with slavery?" when a caller criticized his plan.
On the August 17 edition of his radio show, Mickelson announced that he had a plan to drive undocumented immigrants out of Iowa that involved making those who don't leave "property of the state" who are forced into "compelled labor," like building a wall on the US-Mexican border.*

(45,319 posts)Christians. I mean, Obama's surrogate in SC, Donnie McClurkin went on TV and said gay people are trying to kill Christian children so Christians have to wage war against us, and he was still chosen as an Obama campaign host, and when hosting Obama events he attacked LGBT people for not being thrilled with being called child killing vampires.
So don't even try to pretend any of this is new. 1992 Mike Huckabee called for concentration camps for people with HIV, he repeated it in 2012. He's not a radio host but a candidate and former Governor.
It's odd to me that straight people hear 'stone the gays they are killing children' and think nothing of it.
Who thinks nothing of someone saying "stone the gays"? .... Where is this coming from?

(12,151 posts)There's always a category of people they argue it's okay to treat as though they were not people. Ethnicity, gender, orientation, immigration status, political affiliation.
Then there are of course "enemy combatants," who are somehow neither criminals nor prisoners of war.
Still pretty shocking, if not that surprising to see this proposal to take people who come here to work for below-market wages, and use their status to justify enslaving them.

(12,814 posts)And the reality is that there's usually many more than just one category about which they think so little.
It's a definite us-versus-them (or God complex, or Chosen People) mentality, and it holds our society back.
