Jon Stewart to Enjoy Retirement by Hosting WWE SummerSlam

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/08/18/jon-stewart-wwe-summerslam/?&moduleDetail=section-news-3&action=click&contentCollection=Television&region=Footer&module=MoreInSection&version=WhatsNext&contentID=WhatsNext&pgtype=article

When Jon Stewart announced in February that he would retire from “The Daily Show,” he said: “I don’t have any specific plans. Got a lot of ideas. I got a lot of things in my head.” After more than 16 years behind the desk of one of TV’s most notable late-night shows, Mr. Stewart could really do anything: embark on a lucrative speaking tour; direct another movie; attend every Bruce Springsteen concert for the next several years.

First, though, he has to host a wrestling event.

On Sunday, in his first major appearance since leaving “The Daily Show” on Aug. 6, Mr. Stewart will host WWE’s 28th annual SummerSlam from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It’s not Mr. Stewart’s first appearance in a WWE event. In March, he appeared on “Monday Night Raw,” a weekly wrestling show that airs on the USA Network, and kicked the wrestler Seth Rollins in the groin after a trash-talking exchange between them the previous month.

4. He is a HUGE wrestling fan

He spoke about how his son and he watched together. The first I heard him mention it was about 2 years ago - looking back that was him giving the first indication that he wanted to be home with his family more.

He made an appearance at a Monday night WWE event earlier this year. He also had wrestlers, notably Nick Foley, on several times.

8. You're one of those people who goes around telling children Santa isn't real, aren't you?

OMG, professional wrestling isn't real?

The genius you must possess in order to have figured this out is amazing.

Why do you suppose he put in so many action fighting sequences?

It cost a penny to get in, and you could watch people fight to the death:

The groundlings weren't getting extra credit for their English class by attending.

Not to mention all the dirty jokes.

2. Any chance that Stewart will kick Vince McMahon in the groin this time?

That would almost make it worth watching.

3. His new show will be titled For I Have Balls to Kick

Each week a group of three people who need a kick in the balls will vie for the opportunity to be kicked in the balls by a pro.

First week's candidates will be Josh Dugger, Jared Fogel, and whatever washed up SNL comedian is playing the new KFC Colonel at the time of taping.

13. I had a dream about Stewart and Trump the other day

In my dream Trump was massively popular with the GOP but before the primary was decided he announced he was dropping out of the race...

<dream gibberish about people angry>

Next he is onstage getting ready to speak and huge crowd of people are chanting Trump Trump Trump...

He starts speaking by calling Jon out on stage...

He then tells everyone that his entire campaign was a plan hatched between the Jon and himself to punk the idiots in the GOP (politicians) that were ruining the country.

Plan was:
- Tell them (the tea party crowd) anything they might want to hear - truth is no obstacle.

- Conduct a campaign designed to be completely lacking in any substantive information about what kind of president he might be.

- Offer 'policy solutions' that are as unrealistic as possible - the crazier the better.

Last part of plan - tell the political class of the GOP - publicly and to their faces - what idiots they are and how their approach to elections is what creates most of the real economic problems that make the lives of regular people so frightening.

Or something like that.

For some reason, Jon Stewart hosting WWE seems as unreal as that dream.
