I remember reading a book that I *believe* was published in the late-'90s, maybe early-'00s: The thrust of it was that the Democratic Party had largely abandoned it's 1930s-1980s New Deal economic platform (social safety nets, strong regulations, unions, graduated income tax, etc) in favor of civil rights/identity politics, which was resulting in no progressive economic polices being enacted (or fought for) at all.
Can anyone name the title of this book? I feel like it would be particularly salient nowadays.

(4,225 posts)It's been years since I read it, so my memory is very hazy, but I do remember it fitting at least the first half of your description.

(45,319 posts)as abortion, tax issues, LGBT issues and immigration and use those as a device to push their economic priorities. Note candidate Trump, billionaire in service to money, is talking about immigration and immigrants constantly.
The OP's premise is the opposite of that book.

(95 posts)...as "What's the Matter with Kansas?" was what led me to the book I'm trying to identify. However, it isn't what I'm looking for.

(418 posts)Deer Hunting with Jesus is not exactly what you're looking for, but it is a good examination of Americans that continually fail to vote in their own self interest. I recommend it highly.

(82 posts)Just a thought, the thing I recalled most about this book was all of the "WE BELIEVE's" outlined in the introduction, and throughout the book.. I dunno, maybe? lol
