While the 2016 congressional elections are still more than a year away, Republicans on Tuesday fired the first ad salvo in their bid to unseat Democrat Brad Ashford.
In fact, the cable television advertisement is the first run against any Democrat this year by the National Republican Congressional Committee. That underscores how Republicans in Washington see the Omaha freshman as vulnerable in the 2nd District, which had been in GOP hands for the past two decades.
The ad accuses Ashford of being soft on terrorism, saying he voted to cut funding for troops in the war on terror, end airstrikes against the Islamic State and allow terrorism suspects to be released from the Guantánamo Bay prison.
“Brad Ashford’s record? Dangerous,’’ the ad says.
