Had a call from Alan Grayson today...

(and I mean a real call on my personal phone)

...coming to NYC to raise money for his Senate campaign. He made a point to mention that it was at a lovely apartment in the Beekman part of Midtown (tony residences just south of the Upper East Side, where the apartments sell for $2-$7 million). Now, I don't object to any decisions he makes about where to raise funds, but I'll note that 1) he's holding his event in the sort of location that "the 99%" seem to hate and 2) he's reaching out to the 1% crowd for his funding (I haven't seen the invite, but I guarantee that the ask will be $1,000).Representation for the people?

2. It costs a whopping amount of money to run for office, so candidates go where the money is.

on the issue of diplomacy and war with Iran?

That would make a fantastic question at this gathering. I wonder how the "Congressman with Guts" would answer that.

...but if I were going to guess, I'd say it's because he doesn't want to upset the Jewish retirees.

in any event, I'm supporting Murphy so I won't be going.

5. I posed the same question to one of Grayson's callers the other day

I expressed disappointment that Grayson was siding with neocons and predicted that it would cost him progressive support in his Senate bid. She didn't have an answer and suggested that I visit his website. Nothing there on the Iran deal or explanation as to why he's opposing it. Needless to say, I made no contribution pledge.

I know, dumb question. Of course he will vote against it. So he and Alan are in that same frame.

In the big picture Alan is our kinda Senator! Murphy NOT. Case closed.

...and I've contributed to his House campaign. My question is whether his supporters are willing to accept the political realities that even a progressive has to live by.
