The inappropriate pride of Confederate flag wavers

... I wasn't happy when a recent genealogical search turned up my blood relation to a man who fought for the wrong side in America's fight for independence ...

Which is why I have a hard time sympathizing with those who feel that their "Southern heritage," as it relates to the Confederacy, is under attack. You've heard all that nonsense about how the Stars and Bars are just an innocent symbol that can somehow be divorced from the horrible cause that it represented, and all that pride expressed over the fact that one's ancestors fought for the Confederacy ...

... I feel no urge to fly the Union Jack, wax poetic about my Loyalist heritage, or sing ''God Save the Queen" before baseball games. Instead, I feel ashamed of my ancestor.

What baffles me is why those who fly the Confederate flag and take pride in their Confederate roots don't feel likewise.

The Confederate flag represents not only secession from the United States and the formation of their own country, but also a crime against peace by attacking the Union in order to impose Southern quasi-royalist aristocracy on unwilling Northerners.

They're flying a enemy flag, representing domestic enemies of the United States: treason in defense of racist slavery and the replacing democracy, with the one-person-one-vote principle, with a permanent aristocracy bordering by treating the rich slave owners as royalty above the law IMO.
