UT to move Jefferson Davis statue this weekend

Three of the men, James Stephen Hogg, Albert Sidney Johnston and John Reagan, had deep ties to Texas apart from their service to the Confederacy, Fenves said. The fourth, Robert E. Lee, was a major historical figure whose complicated legacy to Texas and the nation should not be reduced to his role in the Civil War. Fenves said he would consider installing a plaque to explain the historical context behind the four remaining statues. The Davis statue and one of President Woodrow Wilson together look out over UTs South Mall lawn.
